Vintage Bungalow-style Cottage

I have been wanting to showcase more older small/tiny houses and Lindsey from Portland, Oregon wrote me about a friend of hers who is selling a Vintage Bungalow-style Cottage and I thought it fit into the style of home I was looking to share with you.

I want to thank Lindsey for getting the nice pictures to share with us and I hope this gives you some idea of what you might find in your location of an older small home that might be just what you are looking for.

This bungalow was built in 1925. It has about 500 square feet of finished space: a cozy living room with fireplace, one bedroom, an amazingly compact kitchen (with miniature vintage stove and minifridge) and a surprisingly spacious bathroom (clawfoot tub!). There’s also a mudroom by the driveway that’s perfect for kicking off your boots and parking your bike, and a partially-finished basement (about 200 square feet) that holds the gas furnace as well as washer and dryer (included).

Katy’s “Don Vardo” for Sale

The other day I gave you a peak at Katy’s Vardo and yesterday she sent me pictures of the completed vardo which she is officially calling the “Don Vardo.” I knew it would be beautiful as Katy’s craftsmanship showed through even in the very beginning of the build. But when I first saw the pictures, all I could say was, Wow! I think you will agree as you look at the pictures below.

Dee Williams sent me a note when she emailed the pictures to me and I laughed at her explanation of towing this little beauty.

“Katy actually finished the vardo up a few days ago and we took it out for a test drive yesterday to
show it off at the park. It was awesome! It handled great on the road and I was able to sneak under those big trees that scare the crud out of me when I’m pulling my house.”

Little Cottage on Wheels for Sale

*** No Longer for Sale *** Yesterday, I was down visiting Stephen Marshall who owns Little House on the Trailer and he asked me to list one of his homes for sale on the Tiny House Blog.

You probably have noticed a few tiny houses for sale in the sidebar and I am excited that this is becoming a rather popular item and hopefully we will be showing more and more tiny houses as they become available. Unlike the other listings right now, this home is not a shell to be completed by you, but a ready to move in and live in cottage.

This cottage has beautiful reclaimed wood floors, and if you notice below the trim is missing in the photo it is because I shot this photo previous to Stephen having finished that little detail. It is completed now, I just did not get a photograph of it.

Brian’s Bike Trailer-home

Dylan alerted me to an update on a story I covered a while back on Brian Campbell and his bike motorhome. Brian is the man known far and wide for his amazing RV bike.

Jonathan Maus editor of Bike Portland says: Now, not only has Brian rebuilt his own bike-home, he’s also started making them for others. But, Brian’s business is far from being stable. He needs help to keep building them and he’s looking for customers.

Unlike his bike, which is nothing short of a pedal-powered motorhome, the one he has for sale currently is a pull-behind trailer. Brian has perfected the fabrication of an all-weather enclosure that is light, insulated, very stable, and road worthy.
