Mendocino Coast Rental

by Jon Vallee

We recently took a vacation on the Mendocino coast in California and rented what I would call a tiny house on VRBO. It’s listing number is #370975. The house is a 12 x 12 footprint with two stories, the bathroom is in a separate structure about 10 feet away.

This a great opportunity to experience life in small spaces (we spent a week in this rental), but you can rent for as little as two or three days at a time.

I borrowed a tape measure from the landlord and spent the week measuring and designing my future tiny house.

I have sent three photos and you can find more on VRBO. The last photo I sent is the bathroom building.

  1. Nice looking and I appreciate the exterior dimensions and photos. However, the outhouse not so much, I prefer indoor toilets. Inside photos would have been nice also. Does this have stairs or a ladder to get to the upper level?

  2. I don’t think this is an outhouse. Pretty sure they just plumbed a regular bathroom off the main house. Coastal environs like this that don’t freeze make a standalone bath w/o heating possible. Definitely makes you rethink that last glass of water before bedtime! Not sure the square footage savings from the house justify the inconvenience though.

  3. No real inconvenience. If you have to climb a ladder to the loft, you’ll probably want a thunder mug for mid night nature calls.

  4. Sorry for not posting interior photos, I thought the vrbo site had interior shots but there are none.
the bathroom was nice, roomy, heated and modern just not connected.
Ground floor was a sofa and a kitchenette upstairs a queen size bed,TV and dresser,it’s nice ,really
There is a narrow but traditional stairway
Was the first time I’ve posted on the blog, next time I’ll know better
