Firefighters Extra Small Tiny House

Brett Maveety, a young firefighter and construction worker shares the story behind his modern 10×16 tiny house. He built the house from scratch, focusing on a unique design that could fit all his desired features.

Brett built this modern ultra-tiny house on evenings and weekends (while working a full-time construction job and working as a rural firefighter).

The tiny house measures just 10′ x 16′ but it packs a lot into a microscopic space, including a double Murphy bed, a galley kitchen, and a luxury glass shower.

With a window in the front door and a window at the back, giving the tiny space plenty of natural light, surprisingly there is decent storage in this design with a pantry, a closet, and space above the Murphy bed too.

The exterior boasts a modern aesthetic with steel siding, roofing, treated pine, and a vinyl floor.

The house can be placed on a regular foundation, propped up like a mobile home, or even sit on the ground like a backyard shed.

The interior is open concept, with ample storage space, and the house serves as a weekend getaway, bachelor suite, or student rental.

The bathroom includes a large shower with a custom-built control panel, a toilet area, and includes a concrete sink in the living room/bedroom area.

The living room/bedroom features a Murphy bed that can be easily folded up to save space and create extra storage.

The tiny house runs on a grid setup with a propane hookup for the hot water tank and gas cooktop, and an electric heating and cooling system for energy efficiency.

Brett shares details about the insulation system he used, this mineral-based insulation with an R22 rating he uses in the walls and ceiling, and he plans for two layers of the same insulation for the floor.

Building one and a half of these units took him about a year, with this one being completed and the next one halfway done.

He is selling this unit for CAD $67,000 (approx. USD $48,000).

Brett acknowledges the challenges of building a tiny house but finds the process rewarding upon completion. Viewers are encouraged to subscribe to Exploring Alternatives for more information about Brett’s tiny houses.
