Fall Creek Montana Mobile Cabin

The Fall Creek Cabin is the 2nd in a series of cabins from Montana Mobile Cabins which originally had a lot of influence in my starting the Tiny House Blog.

The Fall Creek Cabin is located in Emmigrant, Montana and was built in the Fall of 2009. The cabin is 14′ x 20′ with a full loft, studio kitchen, bath, great room and set on a crawl space foundation that can be used for storage.

This cabin is mobile but not one you would move yourself and requires special equipment and permits. Montana Mobile Cabins charges a per mile delivery fee after the first 50 miles. Visit their FAQ page to learn more.

Cabin Fever

Clean, green and eye-catching. For fans of prefab tiny houses, these three words describe the beautiful designs of Cabin Fever, based in Irvine, California and Miami, Florida. Their prefab designs encompass everything that you need in a tiny house including green design, customization, various size options and simple but elegant details. The prices are not bad either.

The Cabin Fever cabins are built in the factory, then disassembled, packed and shipped to the customer, to be reassembled on-site. This process (along with the permit process) can take about five months. Their cabin packages contain pre-built wall sections, an engineered roof and precision cut components. All hardware, nuts and bolts, screws and nails, and a full set of engineered architectural drawings are included. Depending on local soil conditions, codes and site grade, cabins can be built on a concrete slab or a wood timber foundation system.

The Stump Ranch

Jon Anderson of McGowan Lake, Minnesota has been constructing a log cabin on his property that he calls “The Stump Ranch.” Jon has put together an article and pictures to share with us about his project.  Jon has a blog called the peelinglogs.blogspot.com and you can follow his progress on it. For some, a log cabin is a shelter from the elements. For others, a cabin is a home built with sweat equity and passion. In my case, a log cabin is simply a diversion that keeps me away from the tequila and pharmaceuticals that are so near and dear to my heart.

I have always loved the outdoors which includes hiking, snowshoeing, backpacking, camping, chainsaw work, and even a little fishing. It seems natural that at some point, I might want to tackle a project or two that aligned with my desire to work outside. Well, I selected building a hand-scribed log cabin. Oh, and of course, I would choose to do so from scratch. Meaning I cut down the trees, peeled the bark with a draw-knife, and then cut and notched the trees with axe, adze, and chainsaw. And, I picked a location to build said cabin that was three miles back in the woods where you there was no power, no services, and no way you could get a vehicle anywhere close.  Probably my Swedish heritage… I am very persistent. However, based on my cabin location—intelligence…maybe no much.

Roland Fabiani’s Austrian Cabin

I discovered Roland Fabiani when he posted a picture on the Tiny House Blog facebook page. I contacted him and he shared a ton of pictures and blueprints with me. I have attempted to filter down the pictures to show you the build and the detail but I will let Roland tell you in his words his thoughts behind his cabin.

My name is Roland Fabiani, I´m a Italian Architect, born in Switzerland and living in Vienna (Austria).

I decided to build a tiny cabin to use as atelier in the summer. Nestled in a broad sunny basin, the atelier is located in the Italian Alps, near to the Austrian and Slovenian border and is a great place of spiritual regeneration and physical restoration ( eg enjoying long afternoon teas and watching the changing mountainscape).
