Wanted: Home for our Custom Woody Teardrop

by Lynn & Don Ventura

Sold!

Our “tiny home” isn’t your standard, however, it is a “tiny (temporary) home!” My husband and I built our custom woody teardrop (Benroy model) three years ago and have enjoyed every minute since. We can’t go anywhere without sometimes literally hundreds of folks coming by to check it out! In August we took it, with our 1951 Chevy pickup, from Florida to Michigan, Canada, & New York and even shared it with a bus of Japanese tourists in the Shenandoah National Park on the way home! (Needless to say they’d never seen anything quite like it in their country and had to take pictures of it (and us) to take home.)

While this is based on the original, it has modern upgrades including:

  • 5’x8′ base to accommodate a queen size air mattress
  • door on both sides for easy ingress/egress
  • open/close windows complete with screens
  • custom square tube frame for durability
  • larger tires than typical with “store-bought” frames
  • outlets/lights inside & out
  • wired for TV
  • A/C (hidden in the trunk on the tongue)
  • completely oak wrapped, including fenders (regular metal fenders underneath for durability)
  • etc.

Unfortunately we are now moving on and need to find it a good home with someone who will treasure it the way we have.

Check out our blog showing how it was built! http://dlvent-teardropper.blogspot.com/

Oh yes – the price! $6,000 and I’ll cry all the way out the driveway! We really have enjoyed it that much!

  1. I am in awe for this beauty. Unfortunately, I live in the Netherlands… I have a small oldtimer caravan myself and want to restore it coming year, fresh it up a little at first, maybe do a rearranging i the run of the coming years…. This is inspiring!! I am certainly going for the quilt:)
Warm greetings and my commiserations with your coming loss :)!

  2. I am in love with your Tiny Home. If it was a few years from now I would jump all over it. Your truck is divine in it’s own right. I am forwarding this to a couple of friends who are fans, and I am sure this will sell before the week is up. I know your heart will break when you see your “Home” drive away. Beautiful work!

  3. Why oh why are you selling such a beautiful trailer?! And that you made yourself! I’m so tempted… but currently in the middle of my own tiny house build. One thing at a time 🙂

  4. Very cool! Almost makes me wish I hadn’t just bought one. Although, I love the inside and might do a little copying! Good luck with the sale. It will make a great little home for someone.

  5. Is the pickup, and cap for sale as well…? I mean that would be a great all inclusive package…! And I would hate to see this great pairing to be split up, because they just look great together…

  6. I’m not usually a big fan of tear drops. But this one is AWESOME. Especially being towed by the 51′ Chevy pickup. You are selling a beautiful little trailer. I can understand your attachment to it..
