The annual Solar Decathlon is this next week from September 23 to October 2. Located on the National Mall, West Potomac Park in Washington D.C. If you live close it would be very interesting to visit. I wish I could get out there.
The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon challenges collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive. The winner of the competition is the team that best blends affordability, consumer appeal, and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. For complete information visit the Solar Decathlon website.

Kent, I’m back in Maryland. My wife and I are heading over to the solar decathlon on Sat., I’ll send you some pics.
That would be great Seth and give us a little report along with the pictures. You can email it all to me at tinyhouseblog(at)gmail.com.
You got it. Rain or shine, I’ll be there reporting for the Tiny House Blog!!!
Didn’t I read somewhere that they were looking to hold the solar decathlon in other cities in the future? It would be nice to see it out west for a change.
Wow, I’ll be in DC next week for some training. Now I have something to do after class one night, thanks!
Sounds like fun. I wish I could visit. It would be nice to get some good ideas.
Thanks for the post – I checked it out this past weekend! Very cool designs.
The one from Belgium was especially interesting since it was one of a few 2-level houses and possibly the only passive house there. Inside was very Ikea/warhouse like with modular rooms and living spaces.
I didn’t go through it, but the one from China was interesting – it used 6 shipping containers and people said it was surprisingly spacious.
