Fagor Portable Induction Burner

In my quest for small furnishings and appliances I came across the Fagor Portable Induction Burner. Based in Spain and founded in 1954, Fagor is renowned for its product quality, performance and innovation. The company is the fifth-largest appliance manufacturer in Europe and the number-one induction cooktop producer in the European market.

Here are the specifics:

Precise, efficient, fast, reliable—a favorite of professional chefs, an induction burner is considered the best cooking surface available. Easy-touch controls with six temperature settings. Features timer and control pad lock. Wipe clean. 1300 watts. 14″ x 12″ x 2¾”.

  • Efficient: Uses 90% of energy produced.
  • Fast: Quick heating response: as precise as gas, with 50% less cooking time.
  • Precise: Melt chocolate or butter without a double boiler.
  • Safe: Surface stays cool to the touch with no flames or smoke. Features automatic safety shut-off.
  • Easy to clean: Spills wipe up easily because they don’t get cooked onto the glass.
  • Elegant: Stainless-steel rim and high-quality, heat-resistant glass with elegant touch controls.

The cooking surface surrounding the pot stays cool to the touch since only the pot gets heated. Considered one the most eco-friendly products for its energy-efficiency, it also cooks faster than gas or electric cooktops, reducing 50% of the cooking time. Heating and temperature adjustments are immediate, allowing you to go from a simmer to a rolling boil in a few seconds.

The flat smooth surface of the Portable Induction cooktop is made of high quality heat resistant glass making spills easy to clean.

This versatile indoor/outdoor cooktop is great for entertaining; use it as a stylish, elegant centerpiece on the table, for outdoor parties and in the kitchen as an extra cooking zone. Use it for your boat, camper, dorm or studio apartment or tiny house or cabin!

The best price I have found for the Fagor Portable Induction Burner is at Amazon.

  1. Great find Kent and pretty inexpensive for an induction burner, only $190. Love the size and that it can be stored away when not in use. As a dad of a two year old i really appreciate the cool surface since it reduces the risk of tiny burned fingers. The only draw back I can see is that only magnetic pots and pans work on induction burners (I think) so aluminum core stainless steel clad pans probably won’t work. Right?

    • $190??????? Are you freaking serious? And you think thats cheap?????? What???? I can buy them all day long for less than $60 at the most expensive chain of department stores in Bangkok. $190! Are you crazy?

  2. Yes, you are right Michael. Here are the specs from the Fagor site: Used only with induction compatible cookware such as enameled iron and steel, stainless steel with a magnetic bottom, or cast iron.

  3. This would be really nifty for the little cabin I’m planning to build down here in TN. I will have to see if the power wattage would be too much for a solar panel powered electrical system..

  4. Rating Voltage: 110 – 120V 50 – 60Hz 1300 Watts I’m thinking of sinking this into the worktop of my tumbleweed type home but would have to up-grade to a genset as I don’t think my 12v inverter is going to like it very much

  5. I have one in my tiny cottage. That, plus the largest countertop oven I could find is my complete cooking setup. Works great & very responsive controls (gets hot & cools down fast). I think the price is for the two burner one – mine was much cheaper than that (amazon), but it may be a different brand.

  6. Search on Wikipedia for ‘Induction Cooktop’ to read a Technical write up. There were more compatible styles of Cookware possible to use than I had understood prior. That is, it’s not just a ‘black and white’ matter of either Ferrous Cookware or not.

From a Vendor at the Quartzsite AZ RV Show, I learned there is a Ferrous Plate with a Handle that can be set on an Induction Cooktop. It heats up. Then, a non-Ferrous piece of Cookware can be set on top, and Heat transfers upward. This means you would not have to immediately buy all new Ferrous Cookware.

Having traveled extensively, I can state that the Technical Specs and applicable U.S. Governmental Standards are reasons Induction Cooktops sold in the U.S. would cost more than those sold elsewhere.

  7. I love this little induction cooktop, and the price is outstanding, too! 😀 But I need two burners (so that I can boil water for spagetti while making spagetti sauce, for example.) Does anyone have any suggestions on a 2 burner model?

  8. I have a Tru brand version that I found at Tuesday Mornings for just $40. Absolutely love it, especially when I use my Tramontina 5 qt Dutch Oven. It’s a match made in heaven 🙂 Best soups, stews and stir-fry I’ve ever had!

  9. How long does these portable cooktops last? I’ve never used one before since I have a full range, but it would be nice to take one of these along camping or on vacation to use in a hotel room.

    Cheers,

  10. Thanks for sharing this nice post. I want to share my personal opinion, Very happy with this unit and found most of my pans worked with the induction unit. Does heat fast and with the recent hot spell, the cooking meant less room heat. The gas stove and oven would have made too much heat, but this unit kept things down to a minimum. The temperature listed on the LED read out is a little less, but not a big deal. Thank you…

  11. Very helpful post! I find cooktops alone to be convenient and this being induction makes it so much better. The Gourmia diffuser plate is great for those who haven’t converted all their cookware to induction just yet!

    Best Regards,

  12. I bought the Fagor induction cooktop last month. It is really awesome and helped me hot pot and cook outdoors. Unlike most induction cooktops, this one doesn’t make any buzzing noises. Amazing cooktop!

  13. I’ve had my Fagor cooktop for a year or so and love it. I can cook scrambled eggs and bacon so quickly. Don’t use my stove burners much anymore. Works really well with cast-iron skillet, just need to be careful with the glass top.
