Update on Angelica and Nic

Aldo and Nic purchasing nail sets

About a month ago I put up an announcement about Angelica and Nic who were looking for a place to volunteer to get some experience building a tiny house. They wanted to do this so that they would feel confident enough to start their own tiny home.

Here is an update and some photos from Angelica on what they have been doing during their time off.

First, thank you thank you thank you so very much for having the tiny house blog, it’s been a true blessing! As I explained in my email a few weeks back, we did find someone through our ad advertising “free help building someone’s tiny house.” Unfortunately, things did not work out with that one.

Utilitoy Trailer

With gas prices so high these days and not likely to go down anytime soon. The idea of towing your vacation home down the road may soon be a thing of the past. Like the Utilitoy site says, if you want to vacation in your home, than camp in your home, if you want an adventure go in a Utilitoy.

Though not a tiny house the Utilitoy would make a great extra bedroom for a tiny house or hop in your small car and attach it and go on a vacation to the beach, or the woods, or mountains.

The Utilitoy is made to be ultra lightweight and is very versatile and practical. It is designed to fit into a standard garage for easy storage and unlike most teardrops will easily sleep a family of four. It also can be used as a utility trailer, so you can haul around kayaks, mountain bikes, lumber or furniture. It can be cleaned out with a garden hose. At a base weight of only 962 pounds it really is a light trailer.

The Sportsmobile

At my last teardrop trailer gathering, a monster vehicle pulled into the campground. I immediately dismissed it as another massive vehicle built for trips to the mall, but I was surprised to see that it was actually a tiny house…on really big wheels. The young couple who owned it lived most of the year in the vehicle in Baja, Mexico.

The Sportsmobile is actually a Ford, Chevy/GM or Mercedes-Benz van that is converted into a traveling home. The one I toured was the 4×4 version which is rugged on the outside, but very comfortable, clean and organized on the inside. It’s the perfect touring vehicle for people who want a little more adventure.

Laura and Geoff took their Sportsmobile on their honeymoon and travel around the country in it.
