Fall Creek Montana Mobile Cabin

Posted March 12th, 2010. 22 Comments

The Fall Creek Cabin is the 2nd in a series of cabins from Montana Mobile Cabins which originally had a lot of influence in my starting the Tiny House Blog.

The Fall Creek Cabin is located in Emmigrant, Montana and was built in the Fall of 2009. The cabin is 14′ x 20′ with a full loft, studio kitchen, bath, great room and set on a crawl space foundation that can be used for storage.

For more information on Montana Mobile Cabins go to their website and request their information packet.

This cabin is mobile but not one you would move yourself and requires special equipment and permits. Montana Mobile Cabins charges a per mile delivery fee after the first 50 miles. Visit their FAQ page to learn more.

Wow! Nice house and the view…!

  2. et says:

    Nice concept and workmanship.

I would try to use fewer different kinds of windows the front/left side view shows four windows types/five windows. Also I would use wood windows (these look like vinyl).

  3. How I love this log cabin. Words escape me for the view ~ indescribable.

Just wanted you to know that this site never disappoints me. I am always interested in how others are choosing to live in smaller (and incidentally more environmentally responsible) homes. This one is very cool but how about more city or town homes. Ones that are integrated into neighbourhoods? I’m hopeful we will eventually see acceptance of these homes grow (in number not size ;-) )

Hi Julie – watch for a post later this afternoon (I’ve decided to post it Sunday) as it is about a cottage for sale in the Seattle area. I will also try to find more homes that are in city and towns that most people like yourself are looking for.

  5. I love the log on the loft stairs. What a great artistic line.

Anyone know the R-value for Log Homes?

    • Brillo says:

It’s fairly low. But, logs act a lot like wattle and daub, or other mixed earth/wood wall systems- they provide a combination of both insulation AND thermal mass.

      • The R-Value for a log home is 1.16 per square inch. This equates to roughly an R12 for a 6X6″ log. It is referred to as thermal mass effect. The larger the log, the higher the insulation factor. What this number does not take into account for is the fact that log R-values do not fluctuate with the moisture content in the air as traditional insulation does. If it is cold and rainy outside, then a traditionally insulated home has a decreased R-value. A log homes R-value remains constant, therefore the stability of insulation make log homes more energy efficient than stick framed homes. Hope this information helps.

        • Thanks! You are correct with your formula; in addition since we use a full round, chink style construction the backer rod (material between the logs and behind the chinking) has a R-value of its own as does the chinking. In addition we do not build with anything less then a 10″ average diameter, which makes the R-value even greater. Nice warm cozy cabin :)

It’s awesome looking, where they heck is the water and power hook up, that looks in the middle of nowhere.

    • Kent Griswold says:

Hmmm, not sure. Hopefully they will pitch in with more information as they just gave me the photos and about a sentence of info regarding the cabin.

    • Brillo says:

Water is likely a well. You can see the electric meter in the last photo. It’s likely underground.

    • Dawndi says:

The cabin is sitting on a crawl space foundation – the water hook-up is in the crawl space and yes, it is a well. Same is true for the septic hook-up, in the crawl-space and the electrical is on the outside of the cabin, similar to a mobile home… The cabin is actually in a subdivision…

Ahhh this is my dream location and house. I would love to move in!

    Such nice, rustic details!

  10. Freth says:

Where can you buy that little sink/stove/cabinet/refrigerator space unit??
