A quick update about the Tiny House Appendix in the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC). There is movement in several parts of the country on adoption of this tiny house building code. We need your help to get the code adopted in as many jurisdictions as possible.
I’m currently working with the head of the Building Codes Division, Several State Representatives, and Industry Leaders in Oregon to create a Tiny House Specific building code for the state of Oregon.
In addition, Martin Hammer and I are in communication with the State of New Mexico about adopting the IRC appendix statewide and also introducing language specific to MOVEABLE TINY HOUSES!!! That is HUGE NEWS!
I have also been in contact with people in California and Massachusetts who are seeing movement on the adoption process as well.
I know there are other states out there where the code appendix is being considered. If you have success stories to share, please do so in the comments below. I want to keep track of where progress is being made and where additional help may be needed.
If you’re willing to talk to officials in your state in order to help get the appendix adopted in your area, please let me know and I will connect with you in a week or so with specific details of how to approach folks and what to say. I will also post those details on the page dedicated to the IRC code approval process linked below.
THANK YOU for your help!
