I am really excited to introduce you to PAD’s (Portland Alternative Dwellings) hot off the press new Don Vardo plans. Check out the previous post on the Don Vardo here.
I have had the opportunity to look at the plans first hand and am impressed with the quality of information and drawings included with the plans. The plans include very important information like how to secure the floor, walls and roof to the trailer so you will not worry about it coming off as you are moving it down the road.
Included in the plans are building basics, general engineering, the house-to-trailer connection and framing for the Vardo.
A great description of the lamination process required for making the hand-set rafters in the Vardo are also included so that you can replicate Katy’s fine work. The plans include 22-pages of information, illustrations and drawings. Katy, Dee and Tammy have done an excellent job with these plans and I think just about anyone will be able to take these plans and build their own Don Vardo.

I have been talking to PAD about my own project design. For anyone who is considering their Vardo plans, from what I’ve seen they are awesome and super detailed! They have been communicating with me more like friends then like a company. You will never meet more sincere, honest and helpful people anywhere. Thank you PAD and congrats on getting your plans out!
Nice to see! Best wishes with this. And I second the first comment. Dee and KT are wonderful.
I’d be interested in knowing the approx. material costs for this project as well.
Kent, the Vardo cost approx. $11,000 in materials to build. Katy
Thank you… I’m in Portland, so you may be hearing from me someday.
Best wishes.
* “they” may be hearing from me that is… Thanks Kent.
Your welcome Mark. Let me know if you do decide to build one as I would enjoy seeing your project and sharing it here on the THB. I really like this design too and with a couple of modifications may build one myself someday.
