Jame’s Twelve Cubed Tiny House for Rent

I covered Jame’s Twelve Cubed design back in December of 2009. It was a very popular post and you can view it here with lots of great pictures.

Vicki let me know that she had found it for rent and thought you might want to know about it. The micro home is for rent in Nanaimo, BC, Canada for $600 per month. Below is a copy of the craigslist post and you can view the original post here but it will come down when the house is rented.

This is another option for tiny houses, using them as rental units for additional income. What do you think?

  1. What an interesting home!! I looked at the older post – I’d love to see the floor plan for this – was it ever posted or released?

    • The home was built on a (still running) vintage school bus which is considerably smaller than our modern day school buses. The total cost according to the owner is $4500 which left him with a beautiful tiny and debt-free home.

  2. I’ve ached for my own little place, one where kitty and I could stay in peace for the rest of our days. And it so happens that I live in Duncan, about one hour’s drive south of Nanaimo. But that rent is too high for me.

    Sweet little place though. Sigh.

  3. Thanks for posting this! After all the hours I’ve spent looking at your site, I didn’t realize you’d covered this place already. If I still lived in Nanaimo, I’d be in the line to rent it. Great looking place. I wish the builder much success with his future projects.

  4. What about tiny house on trailer rentals? If you are allowed to have RVs on your property, what are the issues (if any) on building a tiny house on a trailer and renting it out to someone? This could be a good scenario for some because one will provide housing that doesn’t cost much to build in exchange for rental income. On the other end someone has a chance to live in a tiny house and isn’t forced into paying for more than he/she needs.

  5. Nice house but not sure what justifies the very high rent for such a small place and Nanaimo isn’t a hot spot that I know of. No other rental would sell for $24,000, as this house would (in previous post). A mortgage of about $600/mo. would give you about $100,000 to play with. Things have to be realistic and I think this rent is way too high. At that rent you could buy one and pay it off in 3 years, though you would need a place to park it.

  6. What a cute little house. However the pictures of interior looks quite spacious. Just like Liz I would like to see the blueprints of this building. I cannot imagine living in such tiny space.
