Tumbleweed Loring Plans on Sale

Tumbleweed Tiny House Company has another set of their plans on sale for the month of May.

Designed as a very small bungalow, the Loring comes with several options to suit your needs. You can choose between a sleeping loft upstairs, or a cathedral ceiling. Tumbleweed also has a larger version with a downstairs bedroom at the back of the house. It is the same floor plan as the Bodega, except that the roof line makes the curbside appearance very different. Designed with simplicity in mind, this house home has an abundance of light, and yet is very simply designed.

The Loring plans are on sale for $199 and $259 (for the larger version).

  1. I think this is too cute, I would love one of these in my backyard for my business. Do most city ordinances allow these in a standard size back yard? I live in Merced, CA in the city limits. How much does it cost to build one of these, do you buy only the plans or can you buy the plans as well as the kit?, And can it be attached some how to a house, like the backside.
Very interested if you have any answers.. thanks

  2. Well, I think I can answer a couple of those questions. First, you’ll have to check w/ your local planning/zoning officials about whether or not they’ll approve it on your lot. Second, I see no reason that it could not be added as an addition to an existing home if you get approval. Third, as far as I know, Jay sells homes of this scale as plans only, no kits (policy could have changed but that’s the way I recall it). If you visit his site (tumble weed tiny house company) he may still give ball park figures for construction costs on a per square foot basis. You would have to check w/ local building contractors to get their estimates. Contracting and/or building it yourself could probably save you somewhere between 25 to 50%.
