I met Michael Janzen back in 2008. He had just launched a site called Tiny House Design and wanted me to take a look. To be honest, at first I thought he was a competitor—my own Tiny House Blog was one of the only other places covering the movement at the time.
But it turned out he became a good friend and a strong ally. His motto back then was “we’re stronger together,” and he proved it over the next decade.

From 2008 to 2019, Michael inspired hundreds of people to build. His plans were different from regular blueprints, which are often just specs. Michael’s plans were actual teaching tools—showing the process of framing each wall and how they all fit together for the DIY builder.
In 2019, he took a break to focus on his day job in tech, but Michael is finally returning to the tiny house design studio in 2026.
But first, he’s doing something kind of crazy.
Before his time in tech and design, Michael was a potter. He told me about an old potter’s trick for clearing the studio and the mind: You smash the old pots. It’s not a violent act; it’s a cleansing one. It makes room to start again on a new series of work.
Michael is doing exactly that with his design archive.
He actually thought these old plans were lost in a hard drive meltdown in 2019, but he found a backup the other day. While strolling down memory lane, he realized that people might want one last chance to own these before he “smashes the pots” to move on to his new 2026 concepts.
So, he has bundled his entire career archive—24 sets of house plans and 4 design books—into one package.

If you calculated the value at his old price of $29 per plan, this set would be worth over $600. But since his goal is just to give them a final send-off, he has priced the whole thing at just $47.
If you want classic designs, such as the 10-foot-wide Carrack or Westport, this is your chance.
