Bumfuzzle Couple Downsizes to International Truck

The Tiny House Blog has featured the adventurous Schulte family several times. Patrick, Ali and their two children have already lived on several boats, in a VW bus and even a 1966 Dodge Travco vintage motorhome. Now the family has a new plan: buy an International Travelall truck and head to South America.

After selling the Travco in a record-setting hour and four minutes, the family’s new home is a 1968 International Travelall truck (named “Platano” by the children) topped by an expanding Tepui roof top tent where the family sleeps. The open trunk holds clothes, a plug-in cooler, camping gear and tools…but not much else. Ali even sold her wedding and class rings.

“The two of us are so totally and completely over owning stuff—especially stuff that projects an air of status. Nothing but the stuff we are carrying with us at that moment is important, and nothing but our memories and photos elicit any emotion.” – Patrick Schulte, Bumfuzzle.com

On the way down to South America, the family are meandering around the U.S. while testing out the truck (and its more superior gas mileage than the bus). No doubt the entire journey will be documented with aplomb by the family’s beautiful photos.

  1. Congratulations on living a simple life, enjoying the present. Mindfulness in action, living in the moment. A great example of living without “stuff”!

  2. Wonder if they plan to follow any of the route driven by the Richardson Pan-American Highway Expedition in their 1941 Plymouth?
