Greg’s Gypsy Bowtop Caravans

Greg Mort builds gypsy bowtop caravans in Bristol in the United Kingdom and wrote to me about his business. I will turn it over to Greg to tell you about his cool tiny house alternative.

I make new gypsy caravans built of quality seasoned pine surrounded by insulated and waterproofed tarpaulin which is tightly tensioned around a poplar tunnel.

The gypsy caravans are built on brand new Alko caravan chassis. Alko provides 80% of the worlds caravan chassis and they are very light, fully braked and extremely manouverable.

The bowtop wagon provides a spacious, fully mobile, easily towable, very stable and head turning alternative to a conventional caravan.

The gypsy caravans are produced at my workshop in Bristol. They provide ample space for sleeping, cooking and storage. The 15ft length, 6.5ft width (at the bow) and 6.5ft height gives plenty of room. The bed is traditionally built into the full bow width at the rear, with more sleeping space below. The bow top is insulated with ‘green’ Alububble and is a very comfortable and remarkably strong living space. They can be purchased for £9500 with some personal layout. The wagon painting is an extra cost.

Where in California, or anywhere in the United States,
could I find something like this? I’m thinking shipping from the UK
    would be prohibitive!

I could totally live in one of these; ironically the inside kinda reminds me of inside an old-timey American Conestoga wagon, only nicer with the wood framing and roof

I always find these type of caravans very appealing to the eye, but always stop at that. I imagine the fuel economy with one of these must be terrible. I always envision a traveling caravan as a means for a mobile house, and fuel economy and mobility go hand in hand these days.
