Students from my Alma Mater, The Catholic University of America’s School of Architecture Design Collaborative in Washington, DC, recently designed a tiny hermitage for the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America.

It is a place of quiet retreat where anyone is able to experience the solitude that is difficult to find in today’s world. Book your retreat now at the Franciscan Monastery Hermitage.

What a sweet little place. A little modern in some ways but rustic in others. Reminds me of a Paris apartment.

Though modern, it is charming! Love the door and window placement. Wish there was a floorplan posted. Really nice!

Seems just the right size for a single or couple. The detailing is very nice and the appliance core is the best I’ve seen….

Beautiful. It looks so peaceful and serene. What a wonderful retreat.

  8. Corri says:

I couldn’t tell from floor plan or photos what the wooden part near the door is — it sticks out a bit from the rest of the building. Does anyone know? Thx.

  9. Shell says:

    Very cool : )

  10. Mimi Day says:

THis design and set up makes a great “aging-in-place” type of dwelling on top of being a retreat.

  11. Br. Curt, Franciscan Friar says:

I think it will be a lovely spot for spiritual refreshment! It is, a little bit, too convenient with amenities, but I think most people will appreciate its simplicity. Just don’t run the washer when yur trying to meditate.

Is this design available for others to buy? what is the square footage?

  13. Craig says:

Corri, the wood sided bump out is where the head of the bed is. Notice the tall, thin windows by the bed?
