This summer, my husband and I experienced about 10 hours total of electrical grid blackouts. While it wasn’t life-threatening in any way, it made the summer an interesting and slightly hotter experience than normal.
In response to wildfires in the west, utility companies will shut off power to curb additional fires. Hurricanes in the east will just blow down or destroy electrical grids with high winds. With summer’s natural disasters, losing power for several days is becoming the norm.
During our summer blackouts, we spent a lot more time reading paper books. In addition, we had no wifi connection, so we connected our TV and old DVD player to our portable power station and watched some of our favorite movies.
At the time we were thankful we had not completely decluttered our analog entertainment library. When streaming or YouTube was not available, we still had a few things on hand to keep us busy.
Keep a few of your favorite DVDs and books around the house for power-out entertainment.

If you are in the process of decluttering your tiny or traditional home, it might be tempting to get rid of everything that you have not used in years. Use our experience to keep a few things on hand that don’t require much or any power.
