Tiny Houses and Disasters – Issue 83 Tiny House Magazine

The modern tiny house movement covers many areas, but usually, we think of that perfect tiny home we want to live in ourselves. However, there are many important uses for tiny houses and natural disasters are one.

In 2008, Alyssa Nolan lost her home in the Butte Lightning Complex Fire in Chico, Calif. That experience inspired her to found Tiny Homes for Camp Fire Survivors. Although she had no construction knowledge, she has built a community of dedicated volunteers and donors who have given away eight completed tiny homes so far—with more underway.

Alyssa is a mom of three and in her previous careers, Alyssa has been a project manager, marketing manager, program specialist, and is currently the Executive Assistant for DAX-IT Recovery Services when she isn’t volunteering to build the tiny homes.

This example and story in this month’s issue of the Tiny House Magazine is one great example of how important tiny houses have become.
