Salvage. Recycle. Upcycle to Build a Tiny House

Recycled tiny house

What is a great way to save when building your tiny home? By salvaging, recycling, and upcycling the materials you need to construct your tiny abode.

In this month’s issue one article stood out for me. “Salvage. Recycle. Upcycle.” by Rob Kastelic features Rob’s rustic Blue Ridge retreat made from other people’s castoffs.

If you are willing to take the time to gather materials from places like Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, you can obtain some unique items not found in your big box hardware store.

Another great place to find materials are the Habitat for Humanity Restores where you can get diverse, high-quality merchandise at a fraction of the retail price, while diverting reusable household items and building materials from area landfills.

By taking the time to gather your materials beforehand you can save a lot of money for your build in the long run.
