Some Tiny House Blog readers may remember Eric John Jacobs and his “McMansion” of tiny houses that was built with the help from wood shop class students at a Reno, Nev. high school. The “McMansion” is nearly completed and Eric is now parking his new home on a five acre farm near Applegate, Oregon.
The house now has full electricity, water storage under the handmade sofa platform, sheep’s wool insulation, cedar siding and redwood trim, and a metal roof. A round window peaks into a guest loft for Eric’s friends and a stylish Westinghouse fan rotates on the ceiling. Eric works as a river guide on the Rogue River near Ashland, Oregon and plans to live in his house full time while running the river.
Eric was able to park the house on the farm for free in exchange for contributing to the farm work. He also plans to bring home fruit and vegetable waste from various river trips for the farm’s compost pile.
“I wanted to pay the owner, but he said that my money was no good here,” Eric laughed. “He did ask me to bring him some IPA beer once in a while though.”
The owner of the farm also lent Eric a Dodge Ram 3500 diesel truck to tow the nearly 11,000 pound house up to Oregon. Eric also plans to finish up the house with several community build days.
