As a team of 6, we will build a 10’ x 10’ house with a loft, and a 12/12 roof. 90% of the material will be pre-cut, allowing us to build from foundation to roof ridge cap in two 8 hour days! We will use native softwood locally milled.

I’m very interested in doing this, but I’ve got to say that sometime in late Spring/early Summer would be a lot cooler (that is to say warmer). Any chance he will do this again later?
I just talked to Peter this afternoon and I believe this is the first of many workshops. How often he will have them I do not know but he really wants to spread the word and teach people how to make these homes. He says the weather is supposed to be nice this weekend, but I’m sure that is “cool” as it is Vermont and it is December.
Damn, I wish I lived a little closer to Vermont…
Hey Kent, the next time you talk to Peter, tell him to videotape some of these seminars, then burn ’em to disk and sell the DVDs over the ‘Net. He’ll reach a lot more people that way than just teaching firsthand. I know I’d buy a copy.
Hi Chris – I talked to him again today and he has a small group for the workshop and thinks he may even complete the house in one day. The plan is to video tape it also. I will let you know how that goes as he will be contacting me next week after the workshop.
This is wonderful! There are a lot of homeless Veterans in Vermont who could use a house like this, rather than be homeless.
Instead of homeless shelters, the state should invest in buying forest land and paying you to build tiny homes for people, with even tinier payments paid to the state on an ability to pay basis, rather than a mortgage for homeless people.
Please consider sending a letter to Governor Douglas!
I talked to him on the phone for quite a while — Peter is an amazingly nice guy, and really genuinely wants to teach people basic construction. By the time I got off the phone with him, I had a reading list a page long. I’ll have my winter reading cut out for me by the time I get to take the spring workshop!
Peter is a wonderful guy. I hope to have a workshop on my land in New York State in the late summer or early fall. Hope you all can come and learn from Peter. Would love to hear from anyone interested in small homes

This is the 1st time I’ve stopped at your blog and I’ve been really impressed with the caliber of both the weblog itself as well as comments from the posts here. It is good to discover folks who seem to take blogging and site-building seriously (but not too seriously!) and that they catch the attention of an audience of level of quality folks for their blog.
Do you have more photos of your 10 x 10 cabin, including interior? This one looks like it might have 10′ high walls as well? I have been planning to build 10 by 10 by 10 with the same roof pitch and loft. The only difference, I would like as much glass as possible to reduce claustropbobia and enjoy the fantastic river view.
