Jay’s Fencl in Iowa City

My name is Kevin and I am from Burlington Iowa and I went to see Jay in Iowa City. I went up early and spent all day in excitement mode you see I have followed Jay since I had seen an article 2 years ago.

Iowa City is so close and anyway this was my Father’s Day present it was to be one of Jay’s books but he gave the last one to Greg Johnson so am still hoping to get a signed book but got a great pic and the chance to meet and spend time with both Jay and Greg, it was great day.

I am a future Habitat for Humanity caravan builder. It’s been my dream to do this for along time I want a tiny house like the Fencl to go on the building thing caravaners use rv’s and go place to place building house and I will have my Fencl. Building 20 houses a year will do this upon my retirement from the local recycling center unless I win the lottery that will be at the end of year.

My dream is to live and build my own small house and be a volunteer to help others and owning a tiny house will not only free up time and not dealing with a big house but money because it is a less expensive lifestyle.

What’s funny is that everyone I know wants a bigger house, a better car, and more more more and I want less less less. God blessed us with people like Jay and all of you fine people and I intend to use my life to help others as well.

Kevin Keasling

Future small house owner

Thank you Kevin for the update from Iowa City. I need photos and stories from Indianapolis, and Columbus. Columbus is today so please keep us updated!

  1. Awesome!! Kent, It is great to have a posting from Iowa. I think it is so cool that the tour is being covere via the Tiny House Blog. It is more than just the Fencl, but it is about the whole tiny house movement from Coast to Coast. I’m certain that there are many others who anticipate each leg of the journey. It seems to me that there should be plenty of room on the blog to cover this as well as other stories – so I wouldn’t be concerned about this covering taking too much of your blog.

    • Thanks Scott, I decided to keep it coming as I feel it is important and I especially enjoy getting everyones opinion of the Fencl which they have not seen before in person.

I also understand the saturation as I did cover the build of the Fencl a fair amount, but that also was a new experience for me and I wanted to share it with others.

Publishing is like everything else, not everyone is going to see it your way, so you just do the best you can and move forward.

  3. Good morning
My name is Lynn and I am the radio host for Prairie Land Pagan Radio in Coralville, IA
I have been doing a series on Tiny Home Living as I myself plan to have my own tiny home sometime in the future. I am looking to see if there is anyone local who has either built one or if there is a professional builder in Iowa who would be available to be a guest on my radio show?
This is a huge movement and has impressed me from day one, so if there is anyone out there who has either built their own or builds them professionally here in IA, please email me at prairielandpaganradio@gmail.com

    Thank you
