Using Wheel Chocks With Your Tiny House

I don’t quite know what there is to say about wheel chocks. They keep your trailer from rolling down a hill. Fact. Stick them in front of your wheel and behind your wheel, give them a little snugging, and that is it. Gravity does the rest.

But it is important to note that there are several styles of chocks on the market ranging in price, weight, and material. Each one targets a different type of trailer and each one is better suited for one trailer over another. Don’t forget there are also a few cheaper and more atypical solutions to the problem of trailer rolling as well.

In today’s video I introduce you to several different styles of chocks that range in price and function.

  1. If you have a two or three axle trailer do you only need chocks on the front of the front and back of the back tires, or a front and back around each individual tire?

    • With a two axle my habit is to just choose a tire on both sides and surround it. But with a triple axle I would use a chock on the front of the front tire and then an X-chock between the 2nd and 3rd tire on both sides. That should keep a triple axle of heavy weight pretty stationary.

  2. Back in 2001…had a tire blow while driving in the Phoenix area. Getting the car stabilized…started changing the tire. Even with the “emergency” brake on…the car started rolling backwards on level pavement. Fortunately…I had a co-worker with me…so he got the tire on the axle while I pulled back on the bumper jack to keep the car on the jack. Afterwards on the way home…went and bought a cheap floor jack I still have and a set of four chocks. The moral of the story…never assume your vehicle/trailer will never move…because it will!

    • This is true. Trailers are just what they are…structures on wheels. And where there are wheels there is motion. Great lesson and I thank you for sharing that story. Very glad both you and your friend are safe and prepared next time.
