Tiny House in a Landscape

I have had the opportunity of viewing the northern lights on one of our trips up into Canada, but they were very mild and nothing like this. It is a very beautiful exhibit of nature and with this cabin or barn in the foreground makes for a perfect picture.

I like the live roof and of course the old rustic wood. The sun is either rising or setting and the lighting is just right.

Being from Alaska, I have had the priviledge to see the northern lights in all their glory many times… it’s an experience you won’t forget.

Here’s a glimpse at an Alaskan “tiny home” built by Dick Proenneke that also has a roof made from the tundra:

This guy was a master craftsmen and built the cabin by himself from hand tools.

If you haven’t seen the video of his story or read the book, I recommend it highly. He was truly in touch with the nature that surrounded him.

P.S. Another clip of his adventure narrated by the man himself:

I’ve always wanted to see the Aurora. Can anyone tell me, are photos at all accurate? It seems to me the low light level would require long exposures and I assume that would change the appearance of the photo.

Photos are incapable of capturing the dancing motions, which are what makes me stop and stare for a while.. But I’d say the colours of the sky and such are pretty accurate. Although I’ve never seen the Lights out as early as the lighting on the side of the building would suggest.. I wonder what location this photo is from?

      Benjamin,
I’ve seen the aurora only once, and my memories are as vivid as this photo. But I agree with anonymous- it was much darker at night when I saw them.
Get a glimpse if you can some day- you don’t have to be as far north as Alaska- I saw them one summer night in Bellingham, WA.

The aurora in the photo is beautiful!

When something was referred to as a live roof I wondered “What’s that?”

Then I saw the roof that looked like it was made of earth with the plants growing out of it and knew what you meant.

I like the live roof myself.
