This week’s Tiny House in a Landscape is of a little shanty boat called the Charles Andrew. It is part of a fleet of un-powered houseboats moored in Riggs Cove in Georgetown, Maine. The Charles Andrew can sleep up to five and is accessed by a 16 foot skiff. The skiff can also be used to explore the coves and islands in the area. You can rent this little shanty boat, which the owners say is the embodiment of leisure, peace, and romance. No boating experience is required.

Would like to see how they were built – plans?
Their website has pictures of the interior and plans. It’s a nice layout. But I don’t like calling it a shanty which implies old and run-down. This is new and resembles a boat at a mooring.
Just think of it as a boat where you can sit around the wood-stove (It does have a “smokestack”) and sing sea shanties.
LOVE IT! But, I want to know where I can buy one for the rest of my life. I have a cove in ME to put it in. Please inform.

I am building my own tiny house on a flatbed trailer on an island in WA and can’t find informantion on permits needed and whether or not it will affect my landowners tax assessment….
anyone know??
Call your local building dept and ask I don’t think it’s a problem I’m in wa state other side and because it is not a permanent building it’s a trailer no tax or permit needed.
thanks, i’ve been researching and the only thing I have come up with is that if is a residence it needs an inspection from the county….I don’t want any red flags…Community Housing Dept….I’ll call and don’t give me name…LOL!!
Ah, shanty boats! They can be so many things! Hopefully, this site can be a bit of an eye opener. I think calling this a shanty boat, even though it is new, is a compliment, because it expresses the spirit of the boat and the sort of ambiance it can convey. At least, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!
