Tiny House in a Landscape
Mike Greene says: In December, my partner and I went on a trip to South East Asia. This photo was taken on Christmas Day in Halong Bay, Vietnam. The people who live in this house were oyster farmers.
Halong Bay is in Northern Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin. It consists of over 3,000 limestone islands. The whole area is a Unseco World Heritage Site.
Ha long means “where the dragon descends into the sea.” Vietnamese legend says that the islands of Halong Bay were created by a great dragon who lived in the mountains. As it ran towards to coast, its flailing tail gouged out valleys and crevasses. As it plunged into the sea the water filled up all the areas dug up by the tail leaving only pockets of dry land visible.

What a rigorous and wonderful life those oyster men and women must have!
This particular location was also featured on Top Gear (UK car/variety show) and was the crew’s final destination after traveling the entire length of Vietnam by scooter(!) It’s well worth watching and quite entertaining.
What a great place. I’ve seen video of some fishermen in Halong Bay that live for part of the time in caves in those rock cliffs.
