This weeks Tiny House in a Landscape was taken on our recent vacation. This narrow boat is located on the Avon River in the city of Bath in Great Britain. I have been fascinated with narrow boats ever since I discovered them some time back. Many people make them their homes in narrow boats on rivers and canals across Europe. They are also popular as vacation getaways and can be rented for short periods as well. I will be doing a more extensive post in the near future and share with you the interiors of these unique house boats. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a tour of the inside of this narrow boat but I thought this picture made a unique landscape with the church and bridge in the background.
I guess the owners can relandscape by moving their home.
Narrowboats are undoubtedly beautiful and serene but they don’t come cheap!

Ooooh, can’t wait for your post! I love these. We did a narrow boat vacation one year, and it was one of the best trips we’ve ever taken. The kids loved being able to get out and walk along side — or run ahead to get the next lock ready. The interiors are just the right width for a little hallway on one side, and bunk rooms on the other.
Yay! I love these posts. Saturdays just aren’t the same with out seeing a nice serene tiny house in a landscape.
in france we caled that “peniche”, it’s realy cool, but expensive.
I lived in England in the mid 70’s when I was in the Air Force….spent some time on narrow boats….love d it. I would love to see a complete artical with lota of photos….trust you had a great vaction!

“Floating Island” by Emily Kimbrough is a terrific real-life account of a group of friends who toured the canals of France in a canal boat, in about the 1940s. But it’s timeless fun.
I’ve long been fascinated with narrow boats (canal boats), and wish there were an equivalent tradition surviving in the US. I encourage anyone who loves these to check out the TV show “The Boat that Guy Built.”
looks like fun. i have been thinking over the possibility of towing one of these boats unpowered with the benford 14ft tug all over europe. the unpowered version of this boat is called a butty. towing would allow me to take small side day trips into even more narrow waterways with the tug and be able to recover logs for firewood and other chores.when needed i can hook up to continue further on the cruise.
I would love to travel the English channels in that !!!
I live in Surrey England ( though irish ) My girlfriend and I bought one last oct and have been doing it up since. They can come cheep if your willing to put in the effort. All ours is desingned by my partner with the sofa coverings made from old jeans/jumpers and other bits and bods. Its a beautiful place to be away from roads but still travelling. We are off away on it for the next two weeks. Gona do the oxford canal and then the thames…I also plan on asking her to marry me while onbaord to oops
The log stove is the best bit so warm in winter when there is ice on the cut.
The book Narrow dot by RT rolt is excellent and realy worth reading
I miss the bright colorful flower and scenery paintings of the boats in the past.
That was a fun trip and the boats were amazing there and the city was as well.
I am also looking forward to seeing the insides of these narrow boats. I have been enjoying Tiny House for the past 7 months, and hope to one day leaving my current 1250 sq ft home, and moving into my own tiny home. Thank you for all the great information.
