For fans of small fiberglass trailers, the popular and efficient Trillium is back on the road…with a new modern look. The original Trillium trailer was built in the 1970s and some are still being towed around after 35 years of use. The quality materials, cute design and useful floor plans of these original trailers are being used in the new design. Trillium RV has been set up by the former VP of operations of the original Trillium plant, which was in Markham, Ontario, Canada. Tom oversaw 10 years of manufacturing, sales, service and much of the design work of the original Trillium.
Today’s Trilliums are built utilizing the original models. So the quality, design, and floor plans are true to the former manufacturing standards. The overall look of the fiberglass body remains the same. Big improvements are in the area of newer, high tech appliances, modern cushion materials, curtains, and exterior graphics. The trailers have the same dimensions, but will weigh a little more. This is due to the addition of more equipment that users have requested in the trailers.
Tom has opened up his design process to include feedback and ideas from Trillium fans. Some of the new ideas include open storage cabinetry, a small bathroom, modern styling and clean lines.
Trillium RV produces two models: the 1300 and the 4500, two floor plans without bathrooms, a four sleeper bunk, a three sleeper front dinette, and a bathroom floor plan. The new Trillium has an even higher level of quality control, some degree of customization, and top notch customer service. The trailers are sold directly to the consumer, without a dealer network.
Both the 1300 and the 4500 include these features and basic equipment:

Both the 1300 and the 4500 are offered in the Classic Model and the Legend Model. The cost of the 1300 Classic is $11,995 and the 4500 Classic is $13,995. The cost of the 1300 Legend is $13,995 and the 4500 Legend is $15,995. The Legend comes with everything that is included in the Classic plus additional items such as:

- LED reading lights
- Cable TV hookup
- Kitchen counter extension
- Day/Night shades
- MaxxAir roof power vent upgrade

Really? I think these thinks are totally lacking in design ingenuity. Cute because they are small. But if this white cube is going to get any design awards, it has some way to go!
I think our Trillium is beautiful. There is a certain beauty in something that follows functional lines. Being a minimalist, Trillium was the answer to our prayers. We have taken two long trips in our 1300, one 4200 miles and the last one, 5440 miles. Never felt we lacked for anything.

I own a 2014 Trillium “Sidekick”–a Trillium 1300 that was sold by Great West Van during the period when they owned the Trillium brand. I lived in it for seven months of full-time travel, and I loved that little trailer! Towing it behind my Subaru Outback was a pleasure. (I added a Yakima cargo box on top of the Outback, providing extra room for supplies.)
I made a number of changes to the interior. I took out the redundant rear dinette and built a bed there. I took out the one-piece sink/stove unit (three burners were two more than I needed, while the three-inch-deep sink was laughable) and built a replacement countertop from Baltic birch plywood, with a deep sink, a one-burner stovetop, and a spacious counter area between the two. I added a three-gallon removable gray tank beneath the sink so I wouldn’t be dumping gray water out the side of the rig.
I rewired the electrical system, adding a 180 amp-hour LiFePO4 battery and a solar controller for portable panels. I cut openings in various places to allow access to unused space. I added a rear-view camera. In hot weather, I mounted a 5,000 BTU air conditioner in the rear window, and that did a great job of keeping it cool.
It was a very livable rig, and I might still be in it if I had not come into possession of a 19’ Airstream. Like the Trillium, it’s purely functional—no swoops and swirls painted all over it, just honest aluminum. I like it that way.

I have a 1977 1300 mostly original and in very good shape, And i love it
I had a 1975 green 13ft in nice original condition. I removed the upper forward bunk and stored it at home, that made the front lower bunk usable as a lounge sofa and as a bed. That upper bunk was just a bad excuse to say the trailer could sleep four. I went to check out a new 13ft. I could not stand up in the new one. It was a good two inches less head room than the old 1975 model. I you are six foot tall, or over try out the headroom before you buy. I don’t when that “less headroom” change was made.
The other comment I have is that the Trillium’s flat front catches a lot of wind on the road if you are towing with a small vehicle unlike the Bolers or Casitas which are easier to tow. The Trillium 4500 is a great little “two wheel house”.

I am about to make a purchase of the 1978 1300 model Trillium. Can it be modified ? i.e. carpentry additions to the interior for added storage ; shelving ? Can windows be removed and holed up with wall material ?
