I thought you might be interested in a new tiny house company that my husband, father, and father-in-law are starting in the mountains of North Carolina, Brevard Tiny House www.brevardtinyhouse.com. The business has grown out of our family’s insatiable interest in tiny houses that started a few years ago when my husband took a class in sustainable design at UNC Asheville.
While living and teaching English in Sri Lanka last year, we made the decision to design and build our own tiny house. Our dads have extensive backgrounds in construction, and after a few months of designing and redesigning we came up with a unique floor plan that works perfectly for our needs. After a welcome home/beginning construction party on the 4th of July we were able to complete the tiny house in just one month! It was a community effort involving friends, grandparents, and curious neighbors. We then towed the tiny house on a 14 hour journey to Pennsylvania, where we now reside and attend graduate school, and found some awesome landlord/neighbors via craigslist. Now we are taking it a step further, by sharing our experience and our talents with other potential tiny house dwellers!
Located just 35 minutes south of Asheville, NC in the quaint mountain town of Brevard, our company is conveniently situated near multiple state parks and the Pisgah National Forest. Future Tiny House dwellers can come check out the progress on their home while seeing the sites of Asheville (like the Biltmore house, Grove Park Inn, Highland Brewing Company, The Hop ice cream shop, and downtown) and Brevard (like Sliding Rock, Looking Glass Falls or Rainbow Falls, Oskar Blues Brewing or Brevard Brewing, Dupont State Forest: home of the Hunger Games filming, and Dolly’s ice cream shop). You may even catch one of the many festivals in downtown Brevard, or a glimpse of the town’s famous white squirrels!

The pull-out hotplate and toaster oven is a very neat idea. Do the drawers have some type of a locking mechanism? (Not for child proofing per se, but to keep it from getting bumped and sliding back while cooking)

Nice! I like the slide out stove top and toaster oven. Making space for other uses when not in use is what the tiny house is all about.

Is there a shower tucked into the toilet area?
Very nice design. That is a sleeping loft, correct? In the photo it is hard to tell if it is storage, or a bed.I see the bed is under an arched ceiling, but I want to be sure. Do you do one story designs? You are in a great location, and since I plan I moving into a tiny home sometime in the future, i will be excited to come see you in Brevard.

That’s a lovely, snug tiny house, one that looks and feels roomy. Even though I’m too disabled to climb up into a loft to sleep, I enjoy seeing how you fit everything you could need so neatly into the space.
Some great ideas in that design but watch out for the curtains so close to the hotplate. Maybe use some frosted glass, metal blinds or some sort of screen/lattice on the outside instead.
You did exactly what I was looking for.
I could make the couch a fold out and I think I could make the bathroom into a shower/sink/john in one. I have seen them in old travel trailers.

What a wonderful designed tiny home. Your use of kitchen space is really nice. And the washer/dryer right there, oh how perfect. I love your choice of slide out shelves that hold your kitchen appliances. I think a lot of builders will now copy your kitchen design. I have been wanting to install slide out shelves in my tiny galley kitchen area for some time. They make life so much easier, in large homes and especially tiny homes. Using a real sofa placed next to those side by side windows to enjoy natural light and views was a great idea and it looks so cozy and inviting. What a nice area to relax and not be cramped. Seems like it is a great space to entertain & seat guests. I really like that you have such nice window coverings on all your windows for instant privacy. And the real toilet just gives it that real home feel. Your closet space is also planned out so nice for your needs. I remember not to long ago there was a post on this blog and a contest for tiny home owners with a prize being a gift certificate to a storage container company store. People were commenting on how that prize was a dumb idea for tiny home owners. Well, like you I think that there are tons of uses for plastic containers and your closet is a perfect example of how to use them in a tiny home. Wonderful idea. Thanks for the wonderful photos that show off the nooks, crannies and private areas of your tiny home.
I will soon be towing my tiny house from WA State to NC and finally saying goodbye to this over regulated, over taxed WA State where one can not legally live in their tiny house on their own rural country land even when they pay almost five thousand dollars a year in taxes. So many unrestricted properties in NC await tiny home owners who can sleep well at night and live above the radar. Ever notice how many people never respond when you ask them if they are parked legally? Not many. It only takes one person to make your life in your tiny house a nightmare instead of a dream.

Great design and Brevard is not too far from Black Mountain where I live. Refreshing to see a well thought out living arrangement with the right size furniture. Is there a shower in there?
Absolutely wonderful tiny house! Love the sliding kitchen cabinets! Just one observation…towels are hard to dry in the already moisture trapping tiny house situation. I see them hanging one over the other in the picture. Mold and mildew haven! Perhaps a separate hook for each wet towel would help them dry better. I noticed room on each side of the window, or even two hooks over the toilet if you don’t want them to be seen. Just a thought. Otherwise, warm, wonderful, inviting home! Love it!
This is awesome! Beautiful design. The kitchen w/ a pull out for the convection oven and a washer/dryer combo built in. I am sandwiched between the MD line and Philly. small town which is very overtaxed. Looking to get out, as a retiree I don’t need that. Do you happen to have any Tiny homes in the PA area near Philly and MD? And do you host classes in Tiny house constructions? I know the Asheville area, however that would be a weekend trip. Thanks for showing.

I Love the idea of the slide-outs for appliances! I’ve recently purchased an 8X28 1 bedroom mobile home (RV!). It has bunk beds tucked into a corner by the bathroom. I’ve been trying to find an idea for this space and THIS IS IT! Thanks for sharing this with us!

Gorgeous! Congratulations on a terrific design and use of space. You are in the perfect location for a great business. May pop by this summer on way to fav flyfishing spots nearby to take a better look.
Just wondering how you deal with pipes freezing in a TH? I live in CT and it was below 0. Just wondering!
