Pure Salvage Living

by Kent Griswold on December 27th, 2011. 8 Comments

We would like to inform you that we have launched the Puresalvageliving.com website.

This will incorporate the big picture of what Tiny Texas Houses has been able to accomplish over the last 6 years.

While still under development, Puresalvageliving.com already has loads of content and some great opportunities including a free membership that will soon allow access to plans, videos, a blog and forum and much more.

We are in the works of creating our first salvage mining expedition (a.k.a building deconstruction seminar) and need some participation in a brief survey. You can Click here or visit either website to participate.

Our goal in the up coming year is to transition into the Pure Salvage Living Movement through our membership sight and by teaching the hands on skills that will empower anyone who cares to make a difference.

In the months to come we hope to start a monthly newsletter that is full of anything and everything that is Pure Salvage and/or sustainable. From our projects and seminars that are open to members and the public, to links with bits and tips of info from insiders that are willing to share the latest new idea or think-tank with this ever growing movement.

Tiny Texas – Houses Essay Contest

by Kent Griswold on June 21st, 2011. 91 Comments

*Brad sent me some interior photos, be sure and check them out.

Brad Kittel, of Tiny Texas Houses, is having a Essay Contest. The grand prize is a prototype of his newest sustainable home design, valued at $38,000. Brad wishes to show that there are healthy ways to build a sustainable house, to prove that building a sustainable home can be done with local resources and labor, to illustrate a sustainable home with a nearly zero carbon footprint, and to demonstrate the beauty of a sustainable home built using the highest quality woods, hardware, doors, and glass.

What you need to do is write a 300-word essay addressing “How having a Tiny House could change your life” and submit it with a $50 entry fee. The entry fee will first and foremost help pay for the house itself, but also allows us to pay our the judges, the web support, editing, advertising, and the administration costs associated with running the contest. Victorian Tiny Texas House

by Kent Griswold on February 21st, 2010. 35 Comments

A couple of days ago, I was chatting with Brad Kittel of Tiny Texas Houses and he sent me some new pictures of one of his recent homes, this cute little Victorian.

The wooden Victorian is a 12′ x 20′ and it is located in Canyon Lake, Texas. It is lined with 1800 circa metal roofing tiles in the bath area. It also has their new ladder design and a nice rounded loft front.

Brad also told me that he has been busy building and selling homes for several Bed and Breakfasts across the country. A recent one up in the Badlands of South Dakota and three more for another in Pasadena, California. I will follow up with an update on these before long.

Tanner another one of our readers sent me this link to this article in the Austin News about Kittel and his tiny houses. You can read the article called the “Small House Movement hits Central Texas” and watch a neat little video along with the story. Thanks Tanner for sharing this story with us. Continue Reading »

Flying Tiny Texas House

by Kent Griswold on September 18th, 2009. Add a Comment

Brad Kittel from Tiny Texas Houses sent me a few interesting house delivery photos I thought everyone would enjoy.

I call it the flying tiny Texas house. I’ll let Brad fill you in on a few more details:

Life is good here so far and people do seem to finally be recognizing the value and the potential of Salvage Building.  Hopefully this will catch on as a trend and move into other parts of the country as well.

In fact here are some pictures of the last job where we craned two houses and a chapel into their new homes because the trailer could not get there.  Check out the way the porches stayed on in spite of them neglecting to support them.

If you are looking for a beautiful salvaged tiny house check with Brad Kittel of Tiny Texas Houses. He will work with you on getting that home of your dreams.
