Robert’s Tiny Truck House

by Christina Nellemann on July 12th, 2010. 18 Comments

About 15 years ago, Robert P. O’Neil of Concord, Massachusetts spent a month building this “truck house” for himself and his longtime partner, Susan to live in while they built their half-cape house. He built this tiny abode to originally fit his 1949 Ford F6 dump truck, but it is now mounted on a flatbed trailer which is towed by his Ford F350.

The house is 8 feet by 12 feet, weighs 3,600 pounds, and has cathedral ceilings to fit Robert’s 6 foot 6 inch frame. It has a bead-board ceiling, true divided light windows, a cedar shingle roof, oak threshold, pine floors, queen sized bed up on a platform, and a closet. The house has what Robert calls a “non-integrated” kitchen: a small refrigerator, a wood shelf and a hot plate. Because the kitchen is not built into the house Robert said it has the opportunity to move and change. Continue Reading »

Woodie Love Bug

by Christina Nellemann on June 21st, 2010. 18 Comments

In celebration of summer and for Kent heading off to Hawaii, I thought I would do a post on these vintage style trailers by Dayton Taylor and Vintage Trailer Crazy. Part trailer, part Woodie station wagon, these 19–(Any Year) Woodie Love Bugs can be manufactured to match your tow vehicle, birth year or whatever theme you want…including “Surf’s Up.”

Each trailer is 12 feet long and weighs 1,200 pounds. They are custom made with hand built oak and birch walls and cabinets. The Vintage Trailer Crazy design team will consult with you to create your custom Woodie Love Bug. These trailers are built new from the ground up, but use VIN numbers from vintage 1930-1950 trailers. Over 500 man-hours go into the production of each little trailer. They cost around $12,500 and Dayton told me that they sell a lot of them, primarily because of the popularity of smaller trailers. Continue Reading »

Deeks Hickshaw for Sale

by Kent Griswold on May 27th, 2010. 1 Comment

Derek (Deek) Diedricksen of Tiny Yellow House fame is selling his Hickshaw to raise some money for some of his other projects. You can view the craigslist ad here. I have also done a screen capture of it below.

To really view the hickshaw go and watch his video Episode 1 of Tiny Yellow House. If I lived in the North East I would be tempted to take it off his hands myself, but it is just to far away to bring it all the way home to California. I almost forgot to put his price up, $1,500.

Vermont Camp House

by Kent Griswold on May 26th, 2010. Add a Comment

Nate sent me this link to craigslist about this Vermont Camp House. Though this is not tiny and some would question even small, it is a great bargain and shows that if you follow craigslist you can find some true bargains and tiny house opportunities. It looks like you could break it down into three different tiny buildings and move it. I have attached a screen shot of the listing as craigslist will pull it down once it is sold.

Your own instant Vermont Camp …. for only $5,000 (OBO). At 1,100 sq feet, this structurally sound camp house includes a 12 x 11 sq foot downstairs bedroom as well as a large bunk room upstairs. There is a bathroom with hot water heater and all fixtures, and a kitchen with counter and sink. There is a woodstove ready stove pipe/chmney, and the entire front of the house is a large “picnic room.” Moving the cabin will by your responsibility, but it is literally 15 feet from a public road. Serious enquiries only please…….. send an email with your phone number or email address and I will get right back to you.
