House is Sold! Back in August of 2009 Crystal Shaver first contacted me about their beginning construction of the Little Shaver house, I later did an update on their construction. Ron Shaver contacted me recently and wanted to let me know that they were having to sell their little house. Here is what Ron said:

Over the past year and a half my wife Crystal gave you a couple of updates on the progress of our tiny house. We’re happy to report that the project is finished. However, we’re at the point where we need to sell the house due to our ever-growing family and due to the fact that we are still trying to sell our old house!

The house measures approximately 23′ long from the porch to the back and is 8′ wide including an approximately 2 1/2″ wide front entry porch. The peak of the roof measures 13’6″ tall which allows the house to be transported to any state. The trailer the house is built on is a heavy duty car trailer with 12,500 pound axles and a 20,000 pound coupler. The house can accommodate a king size foam mattress in the main sleeping loft and a twin size mattress in the small loft. The house comes equipped with a washer/dryer, kitchen (sink and stove included), a bathroom area with a fully functioning shower and area for a portable or composting toilet, and a storage closet. The house comes fully wired for 50 amp RV service and includes hot and cold water lines, a tankless water heater, a 55 gallon water storage tank and direct water inlet, and a water pump and accumulator tank.

You can view pictures of the complete construction here and see the Craigslist ad here.

Ron says e are asking $22,500 but would entertain reasonable offers. House is Sold!

The “Ski Hut” from Jalopy Cabins

“Makers of unique small cabins, built with reclaimed materials.”

Jalopy Cabins, located in Colorado, is taking a very different approach to building small housing. Our cabins are built from a creative vision by our builder and then assembled with reclaimed materials that we have available. Each cabin will be built using a minimum of 90% reclaimed materials and is truly a one of a kind structure.

In keeping with our mission to use primarily reclaimed, salvaged, or some one else’s mistakes (for example, the windows on this cabin) we were able to build the Ski Hut just the way we envisioned.

The logs came off of the ski resort about 30 minutes from where we live and were from all the clean up they did for the slopes before the season began last year. The hand peeled round logs proved to be a lot more work but really worth the effort it in the end!

All roofing was salvaged from an older house along with the rafters. The door, which was once a bright orange, was salvaged, repainted and given new life with a working door knob.

The windows were someone’s custom order that they didn’t like so we were able to get these nice new windows for a great deal that is also inline with our goal of having energy efficient cabins.

All new insulation was used in the ceiling and floor to also help with energy efficiency. The ceiling has high density foam and the floor has radiant energy insulation.

To see earlier photos of the cabin in progress, check out our website at www.jalopycabins.com or view these two previous posts.

The “Ski Hut” is for sale and we are asking $18,000. Contact Lyle at info@jalopycabins.com or call Wolf at 970-903-3384 and mention the Tiny House Blog post.

We’ve also decided to offer a special of free set-up within a 200 mile radius for this cabin. Set-up would include helping to arrange transportation (though transportation cost is to be paid by buyer of cabin, but we can do all the coordinating), driving to the location and helping unload the cabin onto a prepped site and making sure cabin is level and everything functions as it should. Valued at $800.00.

From the earliest time man has needed shelter from the elements. From the early explores to the brave American pioneers in their canvas covered wagons, in search of a better life, to today where many face uncertain economic times. With the housing bubble popped and foreclosures on the rise, many are looking for a simpler life and freedom from heavy financial burdens of a large mortgage, property taxes and ever increasing insurance premiums.

My name is Kitty Moss and I’m very excited to introduce you to our new company Moss Tiny Houses. We are located in North Central Florida and we will be the first builders in the Southeastern United States to provide a high quality, affordable, alternative, product that is not only beautiful but also very environmentally friendly.

We are a small family owned and operated business. For the past few years we’ve been talking abut building a tiny house on a trailer and our dream is finally coming true. My husband Jeremy, his father David (a licensed contractor) and his brothers Scott, Terry and brother-in-law Adam, have been building houses in Florida for many years. We have built large scale custom homes, and now we are turning our efforts and talents into building “Tiny Houses”. Our houses are built with the higher standards that you would find in larger square footage homes. We endeavor to put the comforts of a modern home into our tiny houses. We use high quality materials that will stand up to the elements and can handle moving your tiny houses.

Our new Model “The Leony” is almost ready. We are asking $28,900. and here is a Specification list:

House Dimensions: 7′ x 16′ Road Height: 13.5′ Sq. Ft.: 112

The house sits on a brand new custom built double axle tandem trailer on a heavy duty frame with brake system (including battery).

Conventionally framed

26 gag. Metal roof

R14 reclaimed insulation

The exterior is Hardie Board Siding and Cedar siding.

The windows are low E-double pane glazed windows and custom designed and fixed windows for the gables.

The full size bathroom includes a stand in shower, dark wood vanity with white sink and low flush toilet. There is also a nice size closet in the bathroom.

The kitchen has low maintenance white cabinets, with dark laminate counter-top, full size sink and Energy Start 3.1 cu. ft. refrigerator with separate freezer door. A fold down table for two will be across from the counter area.

The interior is Cape Cod Beadboard painted with low fume paint.

Designer Light Fixtures with LED bulbs.

Laminate wood floor.

The plumbing has an RV hose connection for waste removal and an RV water connection.

And the best part is the Solar lights, a 45 watt Solar System for the LED bulbs.

The loft sleeps two adults comfortably.

We tried to use reclaimed materials or those made from recycled compounds in order to leave a lower carbon footprint.

We will be coming up with different floor plans and can also custom build to the client’s wishes and needs. We are already talking with a couple of clients that want us to customize their floor plans to have a lower loft and another one with no loft, just a bedroom towards the back. Our goal is to be able to provide a secured building with alternative energy sources and a wide range of choices for its uses, whether you need a full time residence, vacation home, an art studio, mother-in-law suite, care takers cottage, guest house, college student housing, temporary housing after natural disasters, mobile office or shop, hunter’s cabin, mobile bakery, etc. the possibilities are endless. With these Tiny Houses you have the comfort and look of a conventional home but also the ability to go anywhere, measuring only eight ft. wide you don’t need any special type of permit to pull it down the road.

You can follow along on our progress at mosstinyhouses.blogspot.com or if you have any questions please contact us at mosstinyhouses@gmail.com

Scott Stewart is a busy builder if you hadn’t noticed and he keeps sending me these cool projects he is working on. This one he just finished and delivered to an off-grid setting.

It is a 12 foot wide 24 long rustic cabin with rustic pine lap siding. Fully insulated and finished with pine tongue and groove beaded car siding, has hardwood laminate flooring. It also has a 6 foot by 12 foot loft. It was a custom plan for Jorgensen and is placed off-grid. No plumbing or electrical was installed.

Scott says if anyone is interested he would sell you one for $9,500 picked up in his yard. If you live far away you would need to work with Scott on delivery. If you are interested call Scott at 870-213-5310 or eamil him ozarksbest@yahoo.com and Scott is located in Mountain View, Arkansas. Be sure and tell him you heard about it here.

Scott Stewart sent me an update on his Jadyn Mckenna that he is showing at a local show this weekend. I showed you a preview of the building the other day and he is much closer to completion and has a few interior photos to show you.

This building is built rustic with a quick design and built with readily available materials. It is very well built, fully insulated, wired and plumbed with full kitchen and bath. All in a small space and at a very reasonable price. Following are more pictures of the Jadyn McKenna.

These pictures were taken before all the trim, electrical and carpet was installed in the loft. Scott is asking $6,500 for the Jadyn McKenna and he can be reached here:

Scott Stewart is working on another spec house, going for the economy minded and as low of price as he is able but still with lots of features. Scott is introducing to you the Jadyn McKenna tiny house.

The Jadyn McKenna is an 8′ wide and 12′ long house built on skids, not a trailer, old school style with hardwood verticle siding on the exterior, full bath and kitchen, full loft sleeping quarters, like I say I wanted a design that is quick and easy to build as well as utilize materials that are readily available, it truly is an economy house, listed at $6,500 with the usual delivery up to 200 miles from Scott’s Arkansas location.

No interior photos yet as it is still being built. To give you an idea of the layout, when you enter the house to your left will be the bathroom entrance which is a rustic door that looks like an old outhouse with the half moon cutout, the bathroom has the toilet in the left corner, shower in the right corner which is a 32″ x 32″, there is a small sink/vanity between the two.

Along the bathroom wall in the living area is a small kitchen which will have a small stainless and black fridge with freezer top, microwave and toaster convection oven mounted under the overhead cabinets that span approx. 4′ over the base cabinets which will have a sink and two cook top burners, 19 gallon water heater, window type heat/air unit, full loft with ladder access with a pretty spacious sleeping area, rustic inside and out to be quick and low cost.

Hardwood laminate flooring in the living area, vinyl in the bath, carpet in the loft, 36″ entry door, window in living and three windows in the loft provide lots of natrual light.

Scott Stewart has another park model he wants to share and offer a special price to Tiny House Blog viewers. I’ll turn it over to Scott to explain to you about this one. The pictures tell a lot too.

This unit, as nearly all the builds we do, was a custom build for a couple in the Springfield, MO area. It is a park model type of cabin built on a steel frame with axles and bumper pull hitch. It is 10′ wide and 28′ long and has a studio style layout.

It has a loft over the “bedroom” area that can be used for storage or added sleeping area if needed. The bathroom has a 36″ shower stall, full size toilet and 18″ sink/vanity. The kitchen as seen in the pictures is not complete as the buyers will install their own range, fridge and microwave, it has a double basin sink and added counter space with open area below for custom storage.

The cabin has a 220 heat/air combo unit, 19 gallon water heater, wired like a house with 12-2 w ground, plumbed with p.e.x and pvc as applicable, interior is 3/4″ pine tongue and groove beaded siding on walls and vaulted ceilings, hardwood laminate flooring, full 36″ entry door.

The cabin is constructed with 2×8 floor joist 16″ on center with steel hurricane ties, 3/4″ floor decking, full 2×4 framing 16″ on center, the entire cabin was covered with osb before the metal siding and roof were installed, the buyers wanted a maint. free exterior and decided upon light stone color sides and trim with ivy green roof.

This cabin was custom built to their specs but I am offering to duplicate this unit one time through Kent’s blog for $16,000, this would include a completed kitchen and the buyer can make some minor layout changes if needed and can also change exterior color as well as change exterior siding if needed.

I would be willing to sell this unit just dried in allowing the buyer to finish the interior, it can have either the metal sides as in the pics or rustic wood or painted siding, I would take $8500 for that version.

I will include delivery upto 300 miles from Mountain View, AR 72560 with additional delivery distance possible. For more info feel free to email or call Scott anytime, thanks. ozarksbest@yahoo.com or 870-213-5310
