Hermit DeLuxe Plans Update

by Kent Griswold on December 9th, 2010. 10 Comments

Joe Chipman has updated “The Hermit DeLuxe” plans as he has been building this tiny house on wheels and making a photo journal of the process as well updating any changes to the plans. The plans now consist of a 68 page ebook with detailed photos of the construction. I’ll let Joe tell you more about it.

The Hermit DeLuxe is a 160 square foot complete house on wheels with the basic needs for the new digital age hermit. Private bedroom with loft style single bed above, large computer desk below, storage bin, large window, and clothes closet. Ample kitchen area with deep laundry sink, mini refridgerator, camper style gas stove with oven, range hood, and plenty of storage above and below. Central heating area with both woodstove and 120 vac wall heater.

Private bath with sawdust toilet and splash shower with floor drain. Upper double bun area with storage and book shelves. Work height countertop with storage above and below.

Using standard home construction methods and materials, plenty of elbow grease and the labor of family and friends, I believe this project could be done under $6,000 to $7,000 using every trick to save money but not sacrifice quality or livability.

The plans are available for a small amount of $27. Anyone who purchased the plans previous to this new addition will receive the update shortly via email notification. You can purchase right here or on the “Plans Page.

by Kent Griswold on November 26th, 2010. 1 Comment

Steve from Tumbleweed contacted me about a special sale they are having on the Popomo plans. Usually only available by purchasing Jay’s book, Tumbleweed is making it available for a few days at the low price of $9.99. Here is Tumbleweeds description of their plans.

The Popomo is our sleekest model to date, yet it’s one of the easiest tiny houses to build. You can buy the Popomo plans for just $9.99! But you have to hurry because this sale ends November 30th.

This set of plans contains 38 pages jam-packed with all the information you need to build your tiny house like a professional, including step-by-step instructions, orthographic illustrations, and suggested resources and suppliers.

Dan Louche’s Tiny House Plans

by Kent Griswold on September 19th, 2010. 1 Comment

Dan Louche built this beautiful little home for his mother and has put together some extensive plans to make it easy for you to duplicate his efforts. You can view his blog about his construction here. I’ll let Dan tell you more about his plans.

I’ve finally finished compiling all the information from my tiny house project. It has been quite a few months in the works but it is finally done, and I am very proud of it.

During the course of building my tiny house I took many pictures and wrote many notes (in addition to what I posted on the blog). The idea at the time was that someday I would put it all together into a package so that anyone looking to recreate my tiny house for themselves, would have all the benefits of my experiences. That someday has come!

This package includes:

  • A 76 page book consisting of over 120 color pictures and 7100 words detailing all of the steps that I took to build my tiny house. Very little of this information is specific to my tiny house, and would be pertinent to anyone building a tiny house.
  • A 66 page printable set of plans organized in the order in which the work should be completed.
  • An electrical diagram showing how the outlets and switches are divided between circuits.
  • A materials list detailing all of the items that would need to be purchased to build my tiny house. Having this information alone can save you over a thousand dollars, which I explain how in the book.
  • The SketchUp model that you can navigate in 3D to take any measurement and see how every board fits together.
  • Free updates

I’m selling this package for $250 with the hope that I will raise enough money to design and build my next tiny house.

Free Tumbleweed Popomo Plans

by Kent Griswold on June 23rd, 2010. 9 Comments

Six months ago, Steve from Tumbleweed Tiny House Company envisioned FREE house plans made so simple that almost anyone could build them.

Steve is happy to announce the FREE Popomo House Plans with the purchase of the Small House Book. Tumbleweed chose the Popomo because it is the easiest house to build from our catalog. The Popomo stands apart from our other houses with its unique hot rolled corrosion resistant exterior siding (rust like finish).

All told, Tumbleweed spent months of time researching materials and working with experts. The house was designed by Jay Shafer, and he worked with an architect to create 3d visualizations of the exterior and interior of the house. The plans were drawn up, and then we completed 3d isometrics showing the construction of the house step-by-step. An HVAC engineer was brought in to make sure the house could be heated to 68 degrees anywhere in the US.

Tumbleweed researched trailer suppliers and found over 30 suppliers across the US and Canada that sell the trailer needed to build this house and have listed them on our website. Tumbleweed also contacted over 50 steel suppliers and made arrangements with one to custom make the steel panels fit just right for this house … and Tumbleweed can ship them anywhere in the Continental US.

So if you buy the book now you get a free plan. If you previously purchased the book you can get a copy of the plans here and follow the directions on the Tumbleweed page. Following are a couple of screen prints from the plan book. Click Here to Purchase the Small House Book and get the Free Popomo Plans.

Tumbleweed Loring Plans on Sale

by Kent Griswold on May 5th, 2010. 3 Comments

Tumbleweed Tiny House Company has another set of their plans on sale for the month of May.

Designed as a very small bungalow, the Loring comes with several options to suit your needs. You can choose between a sleeping loft upstairs, or a cathedral ceiling. Tumbleweed also has a larger version with a downstairs bedroom at the back of the house. It is the same floor plan as the Bodega, except that the roof line makes the curbside appearance very different. Designed with simplicity in mind, this house home has an abundance of light, and yet is very simply designed.

The Loring plans are on sale for $199 and $259 (for the larger version).

PAD Don Vardo Plans

by Kent Griswold on April 8th, 2010. 7 Comments

I am really excited to introduce you to PAD’s (Portland Alternative Dwellings) hot off the press new Don Vardo plans. Check out the previous post on the Don Vardo here.

I have had the opportunity to look at the plans first hand and am impressed with the quality of information and drawings included with the plans. The plans include very important information like how to secure the floor, walls and roof to the trailer so you will not worry about it coming off as you are moving it down the road.

Included in the plans are building basics, general engineering, the house-to-trailer connection and framing for the Vardo.

A great description of the lamination process required for making the hand-set rafters in the Vardo are also included so that you can replicate Katy’s fine work. The plans include 22-pages of information, illustrations and drawings. Katy, Dee and Tammy have done an excellent job with these plans and I think just about anyone will be able to take these plans and build their own Don Vardo.

Click here to view more details and click on the “Plans” page to purchase.
