A Very Modest Cottage

Fans of Country Living may already have seen this tiny refurbished cottage with an interesting past. The cottage was recently moved hundreds of miles from Central Illinois to a camp in Wisconsin and refurbished by Tereasa Surrat. In its past lives, the cottage was used as a roadside cabin, a “den of iniquity” and a temporary office space for a trucking company after World War II.

Tereasa, her husband David Hernandez, and her brother moved the cottage from where it stood next to her grandmother’s house. Tereasa then proceeded to restore the cottage to complement the other buildings at a resort that she and her husband are also renovating. The cottage now rests on the edge of the woods next to Wandawega Lake. It’s decorated with flea market furniture, thrift store finds and $15 curtains. Continue Reading »

Tiny House in a Landscape

by Kent Griswold on November 20th, 2010. 17 Comments

This weeks Tiny House in a Landscape features a tiny stone cabin beside a lake and some canoeists enjoying the pleasant picture it presents.

I am a big fan of stone structures even though I realize they tend to be harder to heat and keep warm. However, the strength and stability they inspire has always drawn me to them. This is a very pleasant and well designed cabin. What do you think?

Tiny House in a Landscape

This weeks Tiny House in a Landscape is a photograph of some tiny cabins on a lake in Yoho National Park in Canada.

Yoho National Park is located in the Canadian Rocky Mountains along the western slope of the Continental Divide in southeastern British Columbia. Yoho National Park is bordered by Kootenay National Park on the southern side and Banff National Park on the eastern side. The name Yoho comes from a Cree word expressing amazement.

These cabins look like a perfect place to rest and relax. I would enjoy staying here and exploring the area, wouldn’t you?

Tiny House in a Landscape

This weeks Tiny House in a Landscape features a little cabin on a lake with a background of full fall colors. A perfect getaway or place to live and the fall colors reflecting in the lake adds even more beauty to this photograph.

The smoke drifting peacefully from the chimney lets you know that cool autumn weather has taken hold and someone is enjoying a warm fire inside. Enjoy!

Tiny House in a Landscape

This is a beautiful setting with the little white house sitting along side the lake that is reflecting both the mountains and the sky. The lake is so peaceful it makes you want to just sit and reflect in one of the little boats rocking peacefully on the water.

This appears to be an artists rendition so I’m not sure if this is a real location but I sure would enjoy spending some time in a place like this. If you know where this might be located I’m open to suggestions.

Tiny House in a Landscape

by Kent Griswold on November 28th, 2009. 6 Comments

This weeks Tiny House in a Landscape is of a storm approaching two rustic cabins on a lake. The cabins are rather run down, but the bicycle beside the one cabin suggests that it may still be in use. A little elbow grease and a couple of weeks of work could probably get these cabins usable again and with that view, it would be a great place to live and or relax.

Be sure and click on the photograph to see it at a larger size as it is much more impressive at full size.
