I recently discovered a movie by Eva Sollberger who has a blog and creates videos about being Stuck in Vermont. Eva discovered Peter King who has been building tiny houses for years in the state of Vermont and did a cool video tour of a couple of his tiny houses.
Eva gave me information on getting in touch with Peter, but so far I have been unable to talk to him.
I really like his 10 x 10 x 10 tiny house design and would like to see if he has plans available. The neat thing about the cube design is that the loft area has enough room to stand up in, or as Peter says “you can walk the plank.”
Peter is a person who believes in living simply, mortgage free, out in the woods and enjoying life. He is not connected to the internet and appears to live off the grid. His goal is to build at least one tiny home a month and to teach others to do it also.
Peter says any one can build a tiny house once you learn the basics of building. A tiny house can be easily fixed if you make a mistake and is a great learning experience. He believes that you can have several small spaces in an area and each person can have his or her own space. These tiny houses also are around 100 square feet so do not require permits to be built.
Rather than spend 6 weeks to several months building a home, you can build a tiny house in a weekend. Watch the movie below to hear Peter tell his idea of how to live life to the fullest.

I like that model that he’s holding too. The video was great too. It’s nice for someone else to spread some philosophy about tiny house living. some of what he said I thought about before. I thought it would be nice to have a backyard studio or reading room of some type. Thanks for sharing this find.

I just wrote him a letter about how I believe micro building is the way to go and asking for tips on what I should read to get better acquainted. Gonna mail it tomorrow.

Seven Days
This was a awesome and motivational video. I would be very happy with this 10′ x 10′ tiny home. I would like to get more information on how to contact Peter, as I would for sure want to learn how to build one of these myself. Living a simple lifestyle with no mortgage would allow me to pursue my passion of outdoor photography on a full time basis, which would be a dream come true!
Think I’ve watched the video half a dozen times now—hats off to Eva for a well-done feature, and to Peter for his passion for tiny homes.
On a somewhat side note—Timothy mentioned his nature photography a couple comments above. I clicked on his name which took me to his Flickr page. Wow—just, wow. Gorgeous photos. Highly recommend checking them out.

I started downsizing several years ago. I sold my home, threw away tons of junk, gave away more. Inbetween then and now, I rented increasingly smaller apartments but still accumulated more stuff, just better stuff. I’m now in a small apartment of approximately 800 sq ft, long and thin. This concept of even smaller – the tiny house – intrigues me greatly. Mostly because it is tied to an overall philosophy of less rather than more – less space, less stuff, less work – yet more – more time, more freedom, etc.
I love this house, and Peter seems like the sort of guy who would be a great teacher. Is he still thinking of accepting students…and can he be reached by email, or does he have a Post Office box?
Plus, Eva did a great job on the video.

Thanks for posting this video. I did like his floorplans, and his promotion of living within 100 square feet. I really like his perspective on simple living. Such ideas about money and material things need to be flashed in front of mainstream culture.

It seems that Vermont is more open to Tiny Houses than people are here, across the river in New Hampshire. I’d move from New Hampshire if I could find affordable land to put a house on. But – that seems to be the issue just about everywhere – affordable land to purchase, and local zoning. Would anyone in the Vermont/New Hampshire area know anything about affordable land, land leases, zoning issues you might have to contend with in this area ? thanks, M

nice tiny house, i noticed most of the posts are several years old. is Peter still in Vermont building houses.? I want to build one on a hill in Nevada. no water, and i will need solar for sure.
