I recently discovered another small/tiny home builder called Southern Fried Homes. Owned and operated by Tim Watson the company is located on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. Tim has been building custom homes there for the past 22 years.

  8. I really like the plans on that site, do keep trying it’s worth it. Sizes from about 150 sq ft to almost 1200 square feet. The have a charm aspect to them. And as someone else mentioned, they remind me of Texas Tiny Houses, only modern materials. They also have a flavor of old New Orleans on some of them, or a few remind me of the “Painted Ladies” of San Francisco.

  11. Website still down. I live in South Carolina so I sent him a message on his Facebook page. Have not heard back yet. This is great news !! Finally someone building tiny homes in the South instead of Washington, Cali, and the West. Closest tiny home builder to me was in Austin. Let’s get this movement started in the South, then everywhere !!

  16. Kent, these are THE best plans I’ve seen on your site yet! Thank you for posting the. Mr. Watson, if you’re still checking the comments, this old Eastern NC gal is THRILLED that our sister state has something this wonderful. (The cottage names are PERFECT!) I visited your site this morning, and haven’t stopped talking to my husband about them since. I want one–the Oyster Wharf! Will spread the word.

      Thanks for your kind words. I was in the field all day and came home to my website “problem” Hope to have it fixed in a few hours. The Oyster Wharf plan can be had on your lot for around $50,000. Depending on what Eastern NC means. Little Washington, or Greenville that price works, Corolla or Rodanthe and I will need to add a few bucks.

      Thanks for trying. Hilton Head Island is hosting the PGA Tour this week and I think my “webmaster” was out being a great ambassador for our town and as my grandmother would’ve said ” Making sure Mr. Guinness doesn’t tun out of money again?”

      After hoping for a magic midnight reset I will need to get technical help around 9 am.

    I’ll snoop there later…
    Just wanted to say ‘Belissimo!’ The house in the first pic is a real Southern charmer, makes me think of Charleston, even Cottageville, where I have relatives… And it even looks like it can be transported as ready-built, on wheels (to destination and setup), right? I can’t read the tiny figures on the little floorplan to see what the basic dimensions are, but from the photo I’m guessing about 14X20 (not including 4′ for the porch, perhaps, making it a total of 22′ length?)…

      Thanks for trying. You have a good eye and came pretty close to the size of the Oyster Wharf. You are also correct that custom modular (sounds so much better than “on wheels”) is one of the methods we employ. An optimal shipping width that works in most places is a nominal 16′. In Western NC you are restricted to about 14′. We use these shipping guidelines to make a home the most cost efficient regardless of construction method.

      If you read Tiny House blog I don’t need to explain that custom modular is approved and permitted the same as conventional site built construction and in many folks opinion a superior method to build.

    • Still can’t get in…dang. I would like to know how far and wide you are willing to ‘build’ on your land. My dream place (I live in Charleston) is someplace in the foothills in Western SC to go to in Jun-Sept!

  29. I know these tiny houses…they’re in Bluffton, SC, down near the historic Calhoun Street. They’re very cute, and part of Bluffton’s affordable housing project.

    They’re very much reminiscent of Katrina Cottages.

    I live on a sailboat (restored 1978 Soeverl 36 Sloop) in Beaufort, so I get to see lots of small (and not-so-small) homes in the area.

    Just found this site today, and love it.

  32. yes, I am a artist interested in getting a tiny house I can’t physically build my own due to health
    problems with copd. but if I could get a shell and someone to help with the main parts of work
    and pay them something and free meals too, I could probably do the cosmetic parts.
    what my plan is, I have some land, I have to see if there is a natural clearing. I am doing this
    because my parents health is declining and I try to help them as best I can I have a long distance to drive back and forth,so I need to be closer to them. What I need is a seating area big enough
    for one love seat or day bed and a recliner chair for when I have to use my nebulizer treatment
    One br on the lower floor, one real flushing toilet, with a shower and a bath, a loft br one could stand up in completly for my grand. kitchen I will just use one of those burners you sit on the counter, and a toaster oven a sink, and a mini small fridge for one. and storage. I just need a crawl space concrete block or others and cheap cheap, so if there is anyone out there that would be willing to work for small wage and free meals let me know, I still have to sell my home. I want just a place with a little room to move around about 300 square feet, but with the right design could be smaller, I am a simple person, don’t need to be extravagant, but with my health issues I will need to have good air quality. I am also a artist and trying to get a studio too, also interested in the environment , want to check into led lighting, solar panels. but also a budget…..I need a home that can meet code in the county of laurens in sc. I will need a small front porch but a good size back porch witch I can use as a studio until I can later own build a gazebo studio thanks for any help and or advice
