I’ve been reading a fun book by my online friend Rob Greenfield. We have not had the opportunity to meet in person yet but I’m hoping we will sometime in the near future.
Rob’s book is called Dude Making a Difference and subtitled Bamboo Bikes, Dumpster Dives and Other Extreme Adventures Across America.
The intro says: You want to do something for the planet, but what? Change a light bulb, install a low-flow faucet, eat organic? How about ride 4,700 miles across America on a bamboo bicycle, using only water from natural sources, avoiding fossil fuels almost completely, supplying your few electrical needs with solar power and creating nearly zero waste?
Sound crazy? Maybe. But not if you’re Rob Greenfield. Then it sounds like a pretty amazing way to bring your message to as many people as possible, and to have a great time doing it. Dude Making a Difference is Rob’s first-person account of his incredible adventure in radical sustainability. Join him as he pedals from coast to coast in 3-½ months.
Rob’s book tells his story of this project. Living how most of us would choose not to and with leaving almost nothing on the planet behind him. It tells of his day to day struggles with the wind, weather, altitude. Physical challenges that he had to work through. Along with his his own trials of keeping himself mentally going across miles of what felt like nothing.
He also tells about the neat people who live in our great country and those that helped him and befriended him along the way. If you like reading adventure and travelogue style type books this is a great one for you.
Thanks Rob for sharing your journey with us.
