I haven’t seen it.
If the ad has a little blue triangle in the corner, it’s an ad placed by tracking cookies on the individual’s computer.

I knew a couple of my ads were obviously from tracking cookies, but I never noticed the little triangle. Thanks for that info. I guess those who are getting the political ad must have visited a strange site to get that cookie.
Actually I’m more bothered by the phony perpetual motion machine ad I see at the bottom of all my FeedBlitz Tiny House Blog emails.
Only pop up I’ve seen is the subscribe to here ad,which I did already,LOL!
It’s an autoplay POS on the bottom of the page. Yuck.
As long as it aint O’Bummer on it…else I dont think I could visit the site till its fone…lol

What divides us are not different political opinions. Of course we have different opinions. It’s only natural. After all, there are over 300 million of us Americans. What divides us is the total lack of respect that some of us hold for anyone who disagrees with them. We either see them as evil or make jokes about them. We can all try a little harder and make this a better country. Take note Steve. After all, as tiny house people, we are not exactly main stream ourselves. Most Americans, on some level, still disagree with us. That doesn’t mean that we don’t deserve respect. And thanks to my fellow readers for the tips about cookies. Hope the problem goes away soon and have a lovely holiday.
I agree. And download Adblock for Firefox or Chrome – then you won’t see ~98% of adds on the internet 🙂
That’s known as ‘false equivalency’, when you compare two items that are completely unequal and try to minimize the wrongdoing of one and while maximizing that of the other. That is the reason we’re in the mess we’re in.
I don’t see both parties attacking rape victims and outlawing birth control and telling women to keep an aspirin between their knees, for example. Or trying to disenfranchise millions of voters who—-I’m sure this is just a coincidence—–usually vote for people who think they deserve equal rights with everybody else.
As a service member, I will never forgive one particular party for booing the active duty gay soldier at one of their debates, during which not one single candidate defended him. I’ve fought alongside men and women like him. None of that party’s candidates have, and yet they want to keep patriotic people like him from serving.
So, no, there’s no equal respect from me, because they are not equal, and they want to make me and many others like me unequal, no matter what I and many other ‘unequals’ have done for my country. And Steve, you can put that in your pipe and smoke it, as my Dad used to say.
Wow… talk about ‘talking politics’… Poor STeve! He made a comment – a SHORT remark, at most – that alluded to his particular Constitutionally-given opinion, and he gets WASTED for it??
He wasn’t even making a political comment, really, just commenting on the tracker ads (I don’t care WHO they are for, I’ve quashed them all without compasion) in a way HE thought was amusing… so he boo-booed in making a -what SOME would take as – snide little jab within the otherwise relevant comment.
But HOLY COW! ;-(
Simply saying, as another ALREADY pointed out to Steve, to ‘let’s keep politics and political opinions off the board, please?’ would have been PLENTY to cover the subject!
But several here USED Steve’s harmless (albeit biased) opinionated remark to launch on full blown tirades (and as OVERTLY POLITICAL as we’d all like things NOT TO BE, on this board).
I blew right past Steve’s quip without batting an eye. It’s nothing I haven’t heard Obama referred to as, before. But the responses that followed were certainly, ABSOLUTELY, politically-charged and contemptuous, even… and that should have NO PLACE here, even if we WERE in a topic area reserved for ‘who are YOU voting for?’ comments.
I love everyone here.
I try to respect everyone here, even if I KNOW, from past subjects or someone’s direct declaration, we would have NOTHING to talk with each other about – WERE IT NOT FOR THE FACT WE ALL HAVE OUR LOVE FOR TINY HOUSES and SIMPLE LIVING IN COMMON!

As to the annoying ‘ads’, they ARE user-independant, and apparently EVERYWHERE (on forums) right now. I’ve had to add a TON of new URL’s and sites to my Ad-Block this week, so all should be on the lookout for these and TROMP them immediately, as they are TRACKING you and your surf preferences (they are NOT viruses or even malware, folks, just cheesy and highly annoying trackers that get ‘picked up’ from various browsing sessions, like cockleburrs getting snagged up on your jeans whilst crossing the field…
Please take your political discussion elsewhere. Most of us here are interested in discussing tiny/small house issues NOT the upcoming election. We all have our political views. This blog IS NOT the place to express them.
I had the same problem and I think it was caused by trying to add the new blogs to Google Reader by typing the address instead of going to the actual site and clicking on the symbol. I unsubscribed and then added it back the other way and I think it is fine now. I think when you type the text it takes you to a different site and I agree there was some very disgusting language out there.
One more comment… The “political comments” that we saw seemed to be directed at the House of Representatives so either we had the wrong site or the author of those comments had the wrong site.
This is malware, it said my hard drive crashed last night….it redirected me from this site over and over to pages that this person must be paid for clicks on…..after reinstalling everything today it is gone. What a pain for people to try to make money and viewpoints known in this way. Pitiful.
Leslie, I don’t know what you may have picked up, and I know there ARE malware bots out there, but most of the ‘Vote” and politicking bots I’ve seen this past week are NOT malware, but little snippets of script that simply activate upon your browser hitting their page (not ‘their’ page, but ones they have been given PERMISSION to haunt -and yes, sites can get paid some BUCKS for allowing these scripts to ‘lurk’ their site. SCANDALOUS, but it’s been a part of the whole ‘free’ internet we’ve enjoyed going on 20 years now…).)
I actually used to WRITE these little snippets of code (javascript, cgi,etc) for businesses’ websites, once upon a time. They’re a lot more flashy, rampantly prevalent, and a little harder to get rid of, nowadays, though…
I could make just about anything I wanted ‘pop up’ on a visiting user, to the extent they HAD to check a yes or no, for instance, to a question, before being ‘freed’ to move on. And that was 10 years ago!
NOW, these snippets of code can not only follow you around on your web browsing, they can ‘implant’ a code in your systems deepest file levels (so you can’t go hunt for it and delete it easily) that will activate/launch every time you use your browser for instance… or copy every email address from your ‘address book’ or ‘contacts’, from your HARD DRIVE, sending kaboodles of info back to the information seeker. The data they were/are after is NOT your personal textfiles of your personal passwords, prescription lists or banking data, they SPECIFICALLY engage an app or program they know how to ALSO create scripts for (like email apps, other browsers, etc.) and from there they can extract the relevant file of data.
Malware would be something that would cause your computer or files to be damaged in some way, or, worse, deleted! Or, to act wonky (like a mischief-maker’s script that used to shut browsers – even your computer! – down almost immediately after launch, and the virus and virus-type malwares that use your IP and/or email address to spawn copies out to everyone in your email addresses…
I know I know… TMI.
I just wanted to clarify that the ads that have been mentioned here are probably little more than harmless annoyances, that no one should have to panic, even though they ARE ‘activated’ on personal computers and browsers, not necessarily site-related (as in, Tiny House Blog has NOTHING to do with their ‘being here’… you most likely visited a site, very recently, that you have not been to before, or don’t visit often, and ‘picked up’ the tracker(s) from there, like one might ‘pick up’ burrs during a walk.
Check your Ad Block or similar program to see if it can allow you to eradicate them by the URL (right click in the actual popup window and from the dialog pulldown, you SHOULD be able to ‘view info’ or something like that: COPY that URL down; it’s the tracker’s SOURCE); also, close all windows but your HOME PAGE and then EMPTY your cache and cookies (DON’T do so while the affected sites are open, as you’ll empty the cache and data/cookies of everything BUT what’s ‘open’ and then, therefor, still have the problem when you restart!)
I apologize that this got so long.
I used to do web dev and scripting for a living, for several large businesses for a little over a decade (1994 to 2004),, and gues I still have a penchant for going ‘off’ whenver something ‘tekkie’ comes up… 😉

And yes, Leslie… it WAS a pitiful way to have to work and pay the bills. It’s also WHY I stopped working for the first company I’d worked 60 and 70 hour work weeks for and made GOOD MONEY for the time; I got sick of working for people who had STOPPED viewing site visitors as ‘people’ but viewed them, instead, as POTENTIAL CLICKS/CLICK-THROUGHS (PROFITS) and charged companies new to the internet and web presence a fortune for. Anytime there is anything good in the world, someone will invariably come along and find a way to make it ‘make money’ for them. And soon, it’s not so good anymore…
And those of us who work FOR businesses that function thusly, have to ask outselves, at some point: do we want to continue being an accomplice to their dishonorable methods? Or do we walk away.
I did. Walk away, I mean.
I haven’t made $75 an hour – even $35 an hour doesn’t happen much anymore! – since 2004, though. So it WAS a sacrifice…
There is usually a real human being behind those sales calls, phone spammers and, yes, scripted bots, too. Like you and me, they’re trying to make a living with what’s available to them.
I, too, wish the internet was more like what it used to be, in the mid to late 90’s, when there were fewer people, in general, online. Before the predators, criminals, white-collar-thieves, etc. ‘discovered’ the WWW and turned it into the giant commercial mess it is today, for the most part…
I miss the good ole’ www days. ;-(
Thank you for letting us know im glad this site doesn’t put out political ads as we really don’t need things that divide us to enjoy the things that unite us.

I was more offended by the Beezer Homes McMansion ads I keep seeing.

With so much information and so many ads being shoved at you everywhere you need to develop your own mental filters to sort through them as sub-consciously as possible. I give things just enough attention to see if it’s something important, useful or otherwise needs attention(default seems to be NOT)then it’s dealt with or ignored. You might miss something interesting but you can avoid filling your head with too much nonsense too. It’s like bugs buzzing around your head – you can run screaming down the road flapping your arms wildly (much more entertaining to the neighbours!)or just get on with what you were doing. Occasionally you may need to do a heavy swat or use protection. Some of the ads that pop up are so inappropriate (though I can see how a simple keyword connection caused them)that they’re almost funny.
Here is an AD… be offended.
